My Sister who has obtained her US Citizenship filed an aaplication to bring me to the US since 2012:

1: How long does this filing process take before I am invited for an interview?

2. Am I guaranteed of getting the visa?

3: will I be intervied at all?

4: Can I pursue other travel arrangements and not negatively affect my filing?

5: Whatcan I do to expedite action on my case filing?

Thanks

1. 12 years under current conditions.

2. No. No visa is ever guarantee.

3. If you complete the required paperwork and meet the requirements, then you will be interviewed.

4. Having a petition does not prevent you from applying for something else. You can pursue whatever you want.

5. Nothing. There is no expediting for a sibling. You have to wait 12 years.

Thanks for your responses,

But if I get you correctly, does it mean while I am waiting for my petition to come through in 12 years, I can still apply for invitation visa or other forms of Visa even to the US.....is this possible?

or I just have to wait for 12 years and can't travell to the US through other visa types.

There is no invitation visa.

Yes, you can still apply for a tourist visa (though chances of getting one from your country, and with an immigrant petition pending, are low), or any other visa.

You could apply for any visa you want. Showing strong ties to Nigeria can be tricky and visitor visas are hard to get. Do not overstay as overstays are not forgiven for siblings. You could try the student visa route if you can afford it ( it normally takes about 15 k USD at least to show you can afford school )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thanks,

Aafer reading through some web pages I discovered that there are only two types of visa vis Nonimmigrant Visas and Immigrant Visas meaning that my ;petition falls under the later.

My final question on this issue is that with my petition already filed sin 2012:

1. Can I still apply to travel to the US using Nonimmigrant Visas?

2. Will such application not have a negative effect on my petition?

3. Is there any chance that I could be granted Nonimmigrant Visas though I know the chances are slim.

hi

you were already told about the tourist visa, that is a non immigrant visa. chances are slim and there's no guarantee.

it won't have a negative effect on your petition if it is denied

you can check www.uscis.gov, immigration's official website for other non immigrant visas, such as a student visa or temporary work visas

Department of State issues visa, so your link to uscis was wrong. USCIS would be the entity to process a petition, and student visa for example doesn't need that. Temporary work visas do.

I think you misunderstood, I told her to check out the website to find out about other non immigrant visas,

what are non immigrant visas and the type of visas she can apply to

That information is found on DOS website: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english.html - the page I linked to covers various visas available.

To get a visitor visa with a petition in the system is very unlikely. But you can always try and it will be of no negative effect. Just be honest why you want to visit and all that.

I would also suggest you PM Patient2010. She has posted many times how she has had 4 family members get a visitor visa.

Remember you have to qualify on your own and really show very strong ties to Nigeria. A job isn't good enough unless its a really good paying job. You are already showing intent to immigrate and the government doesn't want you coming here and adjusting status on a visit. Or worst disappearing into the population.
