Thanksgiving proclamations in the first thirty years of nationhood

As President, on October 3, 1789, George Washington made the following proclamation and created the first Thanksgiving Day designated by the national government of the United States of America:

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me "to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness. You do know there is a huge gulf between agnostics and Atheists .... one says "I just don't know" and the other contends he is "certain".

BUt all that aside, why not post the long list of names of Founders which were Atheists or agnostic.

IN your hate for America you are getting your history a bit fogged up.

Most of this had gone on hundreds of years before this nations as we know it was founded.

Since you used Thomas Jefferson let me ask, what did Jefferson mean when he wrote "Endowed by our creator"?

Well Jefferson surely did not believe in the Big PUS$Y (Perfect Universal Super Skyward Yeshua)...What you have to understand is pre-Darwin, pre-Big Bang, pre-Periodic Table of Elements, it was very difficult to have a free thinking mind. Jefferson seems to be very close to anti-religion and if he was around today he'd obviously be an atheist.

And he was a young 30 year old chap when he wrote those words....He was much wiser and 30 to 50 years older when he spoke the following:

.. the common law existed while the Anglo-Saxons were yet pagans, at a time when they had never yet heard the name of Christ pronounced or knew that such a character existed.
