Last week, we saw a post in craigslist about this house that perfectly fits us, and everything was just what we wanted! And just a while ago, I received an email that they have chosen us to get the house. However, I have concerns, they are now in Africa and before they can send the package which includes the Entrance and the rooms Keys, Paper/Permanent house form, and The house documetary file, we need to send via money transfer or wire transfer the amount expected from us: $600 for the first month and $400 for the deposit. From our emails, everything was neat. She even mentioned about God. However, we also want to be careful. VJers, what are ways to confirm that this is true as we know a lot of scams are going on right now. But btw, they gave us the address of the house.

Everyone, please shoot any suggestions. :)

God bless! :)

100% a scam. I was warned about this when I was travelling around the world. Sorry.

Agreed, total scam.

Have you actually been to the house or just seen it on the internet? Have you actually spoken to them or just on e-mail?

Ask to do those 2 things if you have not - physically see the house or ask to call them and see what happens. If they stall you and make up excuses as to why you cannot see the house or speak to them on the phone, you know this is a scam.

Good luck

sorry, this is a scam.

craigslist can be useful, but

unless you can

--meet the owners at the property

--vette the ownership document with the local 'deeds office'

then yer in for a scam.

scams suck.

If you actually 'vette' the ownership info, might be a great idea to tell the owner that something's up, and contact the local FBI office AND the police office, file a report with both. I know I'd want someone to report any 'found scam' on my properties, you betcha.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

As everyone said...total scam. However, in future, for anyone reading this...if you are going to rent privately, check the county property tax records. If the 'landlord' is telling you that he built the house 10 years ago, and his name is John Doe, verify it with what's on the county records. Most counties have the search online.

Google 'X county property tax appraiser' or similar search terms to find the site.

Fuquing scammers! When I hear things like this, I always think back to the p-p-p-powerbook revenge scam. Brilliant.

SCAM!

Stay away. Far, far away! It's always a dead giveaway when you are asked to wire money. Always meet in person. I've bought some things off craig's list but i have to meet them in person, in public places. HTH!

$600 per month. Let me guess. 1500+ square feet with more than 1 bathroom, 3 rooms, finished basement, newly renovated, 2 car attached garage, nice neighborhood...

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

Some of these house scammers go to great length--meeting you at the place and then make excuses why they can't go inside--house is undergoing maintenance, lost the key, etc etc!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
