That does sound like a typical quote. Other than filling in some forms you will have to do the evidence gathering so there isn't much of a time savings.

That being said, if you don't believe that you can get the submission done correctly the first time it may be money well spent if it avoids delays, RFE's.

We did hire CB on my AOS but we still got RFE:D

Not sure if maybe you have underlying conditions. My husband was an overstay for 6 years, we did not use a lawyer did it oursleves before finding VJ. Had no issues. It all depends on what makes you comfortable. The choice is always yours good luck

I had a few early errors made by USCIS with my K1 - I paid 1500 for them to effectively expedite my petition.

EDIT. Just looked into my email and they quoted 1500 for AOS as well plus they wanted to be at the interview @300 an hour!

Obviously I did AOS myself. I will say they did successfully expedite my k1 so it was worth it for that.

Just so you know a lawyer cannot expedite or speed up the process for any visa. They can do no more or have no more influence in the processing of you visa than you would on your own.

They can however HELP you put your package together and mail it for you.

Hi everyone,

We are considering the option of hiring a lawyer to help us with the AOS process as we really don't have much time and energy to deal with it. The problem is that I was shocked when I asked today for a quote to a couple of them and they wanted to charge me $1500 and $1800 (not including the USCIS fees!!!).

Is it normal? How much did you pay for your lawyer if you used one?

I got a quote from the lawyer who did our K-1 of $2000 including USCIS costs. The lawyer told us that we have most of what we need and should be able to file ourself so we don't have to pay for the lawyers fees. So we decided to do it ourselves. Since we already had done the K-1 we had most of the information needed for the AOS. I would suggest if you have already done the K-1 visa (not sure because it doesn't say on your post) to do the AOS yourself. As long as your organized it's not that difficult.

If there are special conditions to your case you may want to get a lawyer.

I am for a AOS but from a different visa, I am on a H1B.

The one I talked to and liked most, wants to charge me $1800 with the RFE included if they are any. I am considering of hiring him just for the interview process. Well, my case should be simple but I have a misdemeanor conviction, the lawyer said it shouldnt be a problem but that's why i am that worried (specially because of the interview)

Ask the attorney for a list of clients for you to contact. Any reputable attorney should be glad to supply you with some happy customers to contact. IF they don't offer up references, I would move on.

I paid 3K , I was hoping fro some clear step by step instructions for the entire process which was never provided.

I'm waiting on an RFE right now that was generated because the lawyer(paralegal)sent Incomplete Info to NVC. They didn't even know about the RFE until I sent it to them. They seem to know the process, I think the paralegal is overworked.

I used a specialty law firm called US Visa A...... (don't know if I can post the whole name here). They charged me a $1K flat fee for everything and since I was out of status with many questions and even more doubts, just sorting the "issues" pre-AOS was worth it to me. Our interview was quick and painless (60% of it was looking at wedding photos), but having the attorney with us in the room gave us confidence as well.

If I were in the same situation again, I'd do it exactly the same way.

I paid $600 dollars for the K3. She just emailed me papers to fill out and you print them and send all the stuff back and she checks it out. She has helped me for the most part. I really have nothing bad to say about her. I just got the highest plan for the K3 so I had embassy help from her too. But just to help with paperwork it is $400 for a K3 and $300 for a K1. Mine charges $5,000 for K-3 which includes removing conditions. I would have done it myself, but with all the stress of my mom having cancer I decided to hire an attorney. I would suggest doing it yourself.

Also the attorney does not have to be in the same state as you.

wow so much money given to lawyers for just them filling the blanks that u can do and sending the paper work out to uscis ,vj helps agreat deal makes it possible to do it youre self ,my opinion,but its all how comfortable you feel to do it and if you can afford to give the money to a lawyer
