Hello All,

I keep checking the forums for July-September 2016 filers, and it looks like no good news yet for CSC filers. Grr.

Anyway, I went to my local office last Thursday to get my I-551 stamp, as my I-751 NOA letter expires on the first week of October. I know that there has been a lot of arguments on whether they go with the date on your NOA or your actual GC, until now, I am still not sure what they follow for the one-year extension. In my case, they just put an I-551 on my passport, and also took the I-751 NOA letter. Good thing I made a copy of it! I waited about more than an hour before I got my passport back. I am not sure why, and I didn't ask, but I just didn't mind waiting at all for it as I wanted to get over it.

I also asked the person there if I can apply for naturalization while my I-751 is pending, and she said yes. I remember when I called before, and the guy that I talked to said it would be best to wait until there has been a decision on my I-751 before applying for my citizenship. But the (a real live) person during my I-551 stamp appointment told me that if I am eligible to do so, then I can, and I think I will just do that. I will be eligible for citizenship before the end of this month for early filing (90-day prior). I did ask her what will happen to my pending I-751 application, and she said that they will be adjudicating it.

I was hoping to get news within this month regarding my I-751, but at this point, I am convinced to submit my N-400 even without my I-751 being approved yet. I did see that it now takes at least 10 months for N-400 in some places, and I just don't want to wait until the naturalization processing will be just like the removal of conditions.

But for today, and the rest of the week... I will keep waiting.

Good day fellow October 2016 applicants!

I am a long time lurker and would like to my experience so far.

First off my dates:

751 sent: 9/29/2016

NOA: 10/05/2016

Bio: 11/04/2016

Approved: I wish...

Called today to USCIS and ask to talk with Tier 2, after a few questions why I want to talk to them, they did transferred me. Tier 2 person told me that they cannot see any more details that is available online...(I find it very hard to believe) and basically told me that last update they see is from October 2016 and should go ahead and do appointment for the stamp in my passport. Also, she did say one thing that confused me a little: "Your application is still in Vermont service center and has not been transferred to a local office YET". Not sure what this means, because I was pretty sure that in case interview not required then Vermont approves it without any local offices... One thing I am very sure about is that both Tier1 and Tier2 are useless and even claiming that they cannot see details if file been "touched" and only see if it is approved or scheduled for interview...

Every time my husband looks at the online appointment page for our local USCIS office, it says there are no available appointment and to check again tomorrow. It's been that way for over a month. What the hell? And how early can you get the stamp?

Just to share my experience, my extension letter was supposed to expire Sept 2017 but I got the stamp in March 2017 - 6 months in advance. When I went for my appointment, I simply told the officer my dog destroyed the letter. No further questions asked, she took my passport and gave me the stamp with an expiration date of March 2018. She also returned the expired green card... so in general that 30 days rule isn't really set in stone and actually depends on who u deal with.

Is that ok to get a passport stamp even the extention letter is expired? Mine will expire on oct 21 and the office is 8 hrs drive. I will need to get days off from work to be able to go.

Yes you can get a stamp even if your letter is expired, you're still a legal resident while you wait for a decision with your ROC application.

Are you saying your extension letter is due to expire?  Doesn't matter if your extension letter is out of date as you are still a legal permanent resident. Please don't worry,  you can make appointment but it is  best to try just after midnight, that's when they normally refresh. If not the alternative is to try and get an appointment for another field office.  Take your passport once you get an appointment so they can stamp it with an i55i stamp, if your passport is expired take two passport size photographs to the appointment and your documentation letter, expired card, extension letter and they will put the stamp on a card for you.

I can't answer this as I am not 100 percent sure. I fail to see why they would transfer it to a field office unless an interview is needed and if not I would imagine they make the decision at Vermont or a service  center where a person has filed their paperwork.  I also would imagine the only data transferred  and probably via a computer  program, would be the data required to issue a GC, if there is no interview.

I sometimes wonder if any of the personnel  who work for the  USCIS hotline, actually really know anything about how their other service centers operate.  I am assuming this happened in your case,  the Tier 2 might  honestly believe every file is automatically transferred to the relevant field office.

I might be wrong, perhaps one of our wonderful  fellow VJers might be able to shed some more light on it?

This sounds exactly like one of the experiences I had with a Tier 2 agent I spoke to and I mean verbatim. Some of them are just not helpful at all, while some will go extra miles to assist u. U gotta keep calling back and hopefully get a good one who can look into a “different screen” and tell you what’s up. Good luck
