I also cook all my meals from scratch here, they are healthy and clean. I avoid to eat out as well. I even make my own bread, I'm afraid to eat American bread and the organic one can be very expensive sometimes.

I think people who have lived here all their lives have pretty much heard it all and adapted in the food department, in which ever way they have chosen, whether organic, growing their own or just eating the food as it is, so having people from other countries believe that they are telling Americans something new or earth-shattering just gets a little old after a while. More than likely, having a spouse from elsewhere, we have also traveled to other countries, so we know what other food tastes like as well. I like chocolate from all over, including a plain old Hershey bar. There is room to like a variety. Quite frankly, I love the food in Morocco, more than here, and haven't quite been able to replicate what I have eaten there.

People are going to react a lot better if such things are couched in terms like missing the food from home instead of condescending and malicious accusations, as if you were a murder victim.

I've never been a food snob and look forward to the food in a different culture. Americans in the Philippines whine about not having hamburgers they are accustomed to, or steaks, or the fact spaghetti has sugar - and most oddly of all the complaints about having to eat rice. I couldn't care less, but honestly eating my first duck embryo was harder for me than grasshoppers, bugs, and worms in Thailand. Dog meat, horse meat, boy those were great. But the first duck embryo took me a while to try.

Most of us are very open minded and eager to hear any kind of bona-fide science behind reservations about growing or processing foods. MSG is a migraine trigger and my wife has horrible migraines, throwing up green bile for sometimes days along with the intense pain. There are others we watch for too, but I have never once whined about having to check ingredients or having to pay more for something in order to avoid her trauma - and this is real trauma, not some pretentious "your food is going to kill me" accusation. I think that's why we don't complain: because it isn't some idle melodramatic bullcrap.

So just be a little more diplomatic by being less insulting and less melodramatic about your life being at stake. Were it actually that bad then yes - what are you doing in a country you claim is a mortal threat to your life.

I don't like processed food or some restaurants food because it is litterally soaking in oil/grease.

Unfortunately I live with my in laws and the mother has never learned to cook properly. She uses a ton of pre made mixes, so in the end, a lot of the flavours are artificial. When I insist on cooking (from scratch and with healthy ingredients) she tells me I shouldn't (treats me like a guest but I'm here to stay with the family for a few months). So now I have my car and go and buy my own food, when she comes back from work, it's ready for everyone to enjoy, but she feels guilty for not preparing the food herself.

I'm not going to eat ####### just to please her...

There are plenty of health nuts in America... America pretty much INVENTED the 'health food industry', as well as the fast-food/junk food industries... and farmer's markets/'eating local'/eating 'natural' are the flavours of the year. You can eat anywhere on the spectrum you feel like if you can afford it...

And if you can't... well, it probably took me three years or so to get used to 'Eating American'. There is a ton of sugar/salt/fat/flavourings in almost everything you eat. It wasn't what I was used to at all (especially the bread... ugh) After a decade, I can't remember what 'home' was like. But I LOVE Trader Joes... much better quality food at great prices.

Imo tap water in the US is not created equal as far as taste goes. Some is horrible and some is good. However I would say that probably all of it is safe to drink. I've been in the Philippines going on 2 years now and have not had tap water .. nor will I ever.

Most US water is perfectly safe to drink straight from the tap... but it also has very high mineral contents that make it taste disgusting... a britta pitcher or a fridge with a built in water filter is invaluable. Just make sure that if you have an icemaker it uses filtered water to make the ice - my bils doesn't and the ice ruins drinks because Florida water is HORRID. Ours is pre-filtered and it makes lovely tasteless ice and water.

sheltering yourself isn't going to safe you. we are all mortal.

american water is probably safer than most countries in the world. flushing your system with the added (toxins) in american water is probably better than not flushing at all, imo

Wow, I thought this was an off topic discussion and that it would be a friendly environment to pop into. However, I have been sat here reading comments and thinking come on guys, let's just be nice to each other. After all this is a discussion about food and water, not about politics or religion, nor is it about who was top of the class for geography or chemistry!! SMH.
