Be prepared to wait!!!
I arrived on a plane from Paris, at passport control, there was only one officer for all the Non US citizens. Ppl in transit were in a different line and had 2 officers. So once all the American citizens and people in transit passed, my line started to move much faster and I was finally in front of an officer. That's approximately 1 hour later... Then I had to wait on the side until everyone from the plane got controlled. They're not in a hurry... Then the officer told me and another guy (in transit) to follow him. The guy in transit was the first to go. I waited about 30 min more. Then it was my turn and I was not asked any questions at all. He looked at the docs from the envelope and put the stamp in my passport and told me I could go.

So it took approximately 1hour30 to go through immigration because they didn't have enough officers...

Consulate Review: Belgium
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 27, 2015
Embassy Review : Except for the fact that I didn't get the interview letter the first time they sent it, my overall experience with the consular section is very positive.

It was difficult to find a way to contact the consulate section to inquire about my appointment letter, the receptionist (general phone number) redirected me to a call center which isn't of any help at all. Only after calling a third time the general number, I got their email address. They were very professional and sent another letter which I received in a few business days.

My interview was on January 27 at 2 pm. When I arrived (around 1:45pm) I tried to find the correct entrance, the guards (private company) were very helpful with that. I got inside the fenced area and there I waited in front of a small office door (where they do the security check, very similar to airports). Once they let me in they did the security check and I was allowed to keep my jacket. They kept my bag. Then there is a machine with tickets. I didn't know which one to choose so the guard helped me. FYI, for a K1 visa, it's "immigrant".

I entered the waiting room and there were 2 other people. They looked like a couple. A few other people entered later and in total, there were about 6 people after a while. I waited for 15 min before my ticket number showed up on the screen. I went to the counter and there an employee asked for the required documents. He entered some information in his computer and took my fingerprints. After 10 minutes, he told me I could go and sit down, that I will be called again. Keep your initial ticket with the number, it is used again for the interview.

When my number showed up on the screen, I went to another counter where an interviewer asked what my name is, made me take an oath (I will only tell the truth blabla) and verified my fingerprints.
He asked me a lot of questions. He wanted quite a few details. He asked for the whole relationship history, facts like my fiancé's date of birth, where he lives, what he is like, what he likes to do in his free time, when we decided to get engaged, he asked about our wedding plans, my professional plans etc. The man was smiling a lot and it helped relieve the pressure. Very friendly person.

At some point he said he was going to approve the visa and that I could go and pick it up the week after. They keep the passport, you'll get it with the visa.

I was quickly outside and told the good news to my fiancé.

In all, the whole appointment took slightly more than one hour.

Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
