I got a request to attend... its by web cam for 2 hours on 3/21/17. I work 12 hours so no can do.

This was the content of the email I received:

 

On behalf of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Barbaricum is recruiting individuals to participate in a virtual focus group to be held on Tuesday March 21, 2017. The focus groups will be conducted over the internet via webcam allowing applicants from all over the U.S. to take part from the comfort of their own homes. Those who complete the survey and are invited to participate in the virtual focus group will receive $100 via PayPal for participating in one 2-hour session. The focus group will be about current USCIS case processing times and available resources.

Yes, I got the first email, responded to their questions, got a call back to confirm that I actually wanted to attend and then got another email with time and place. I attended the focus group and it was a nice experience. There were two groups that same evening, after each other, only 8 people in each group. They told me they send out emails to tons of people who have some sort of connection to USCIS (could be applicants, laywers etc), and then (in our specific case) they pick out a few depending on how well these people can operate a computer/tablet/smart phone, what kind of equipment they can bring to the group (tablet, laptop, smartphone), age, gender, country of origin, different stages in the immigration process etc. so they get a group of very different individuals that can give their opinion on whatever new feature it is that they are supposed to test out before it releases to the public.

 

For those of you who are picked out and have the possibility to attend, I really recommend going to these focus groups. It's done very professionally and it's a great way to voice your opinion.
