Well, this is it, the finish line of our visa journey! My wife will be arriving in a few hours!

I remember what it was like gathering all the documents to submit the I-130. Then waiting weeks on end for word to come from USCIS and being cautiously optimistic as the VJ timeline estimates updated for the better, then how exciting it was to receive the NOA2. Then waiting once again on the NVC to assign a case number, feeling great on finally getting one, then anticipating that case complete and assignment of an interview date. I also remember how great it was to have an interview date assigned and to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel; then have that excitement turn into anxiousness and anxiety as that date drew closer (the fact that I was able to be there for her interview was as much help to me as it was for her). And then finally, the best feeling of all, emerging from the tunnel and into light upon a successful interview. It is all for this moment, the finish line!

To those of you who are about to begin this process, or have just begun it. Good luck, have patience, and hang in there; good things will come to you! To those of you who are about to interview, good luck at your interview!

To those of you who began the process in April 2011 as I did and to those of you whose spouses (or yourself if you are a beneficiary) who interviewed in November 2011, it was my pleasure getting to know you through these forums and sharing our stories! And continued best wishes to you as you may have already crossed or are about to cross the finish line in your journeys!

To the VJ community as a whole, thanks to all of you for your advice, assistance, expertise, "straight talk", encouragement, and friendship!! I don't think I would be at this moment today without all of what you have given me!!

I won't be going away from VJ, I will still be here sharing the knowledge I have gained about this process and appropriately contributing my two cents as well.

I'll be leaving for the airport soon, and I will be stopping at the store on the way to get some flowers.

March 26, 2009: We become a couple!
September 10, 2009: Arrived for first meeting in-person!
June 17, 2010: Arrived for second in-person meeting and start of travel together to other areas of China!
June 21, 2010: Engaged!!!
September 1, 2010: Switched course from K1 to CR-1
December 8, 2010: Wedding date set; it will be on February 18, 2011!
February 9, 2011: Depart for China
February 11, 2011: Registered for marriage in Wuhan, officially married!!!
February 18, 2011: Wedding ceremony in Shiyan!!!
April 22, 2011: Mailed I-130 to Chicago
April 28, 2011: Received NOA1 via text/email, file routed to CSC (priority date April 25th)
April 29, 2011: Updated
May 3, 2011: Received NOA1 hardcopy in mail
July 26, 2011: Received NOA2 via text/email!!!
July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

08/19/11: NVC received case

09/16/11: received NVC case number

09/19/11: AOS bill and DS 3032 generated - emailed choice of agent to NVC

09/20/11: paid AOS

09/21/11: AOS shows paid and DS 3032 accepted.

09/22/11: mailed AOS (I-864ez)

09/23/11: received and paid IV bill

09/26/11: IV bill shows paid

09/27/11: mailed DS-230

09/30/11: AOS reviewed and false RFE for DS-230

10/05/11: RFE for birth certificate (which was already included in IV package)

10/06/11: DS-230 under review due to RFE... waiting...

10/21/11: Case Complete at NVC, finally!

11/02/11: Received interview date :D

11/16/11: Medical - passed!

12/13/11: Interview at the embassy in Stockholm - APPROVED!!

12/29/11: POE Boston - piece of cake :)

01/28/12: Received Green Card in the mail

12-02-11 - Interview - 221g due to a washed passport
12-17-11 - POE - YYC (preclearance in Canada)

2011 to 2013 - Life happened

06-26-13 - Divorce finalized

10-07-13 - I-751 divorce filer paperwork journey begins

07-03-14 - ROC interview - approval pending delayed background checks

07-25-14 - APPROVED! 10 year GC is finally in production!

08-01-14 - 10 year GC in hand. The journey has finally ended. :)

2014 to 2020 - Living paperwork-free and focused on me!

11-09-20 - N-400 filed online - welcome back VJ fam!

6-22-21 - Interview in Nashville, approved! And then...

6-22-21 - Pledge of Allegiance taken. Holy shirtballs I'm a US Citizen.

5March2012 - IV Fee shows paid (paid on 3March), IV (DS-230) Package sent in

6March2012 - AOS Rejected due to minor error, corrected version emailed in

01/15/14: sent I-751 application

05/14/14: received card production notification by e-mail, approval date 05/13

Naturalization

02/01/24: N-400 submitted online; Biometrics reuse notice received immediately online; "case being actively reviewed" after a couple hours

02/09/24: received NOA1 by mail

02/10/24: received biometrics reuse notice by mail

04/08/24: interview scheduled for 05/14. Received "We have taken an action in your case" email.
