  1. How frustrating, if not enraging. --- Not your fault and definitely not intended as an insult, but this situation seems to reinforce what folks here recommend -- that the CR-1 visa is superior to the K-1 in many ways.
  2. Man -- we've never had 3 consecutive VAWA-Thread Jokes until now. Here is Sunday's Official Weekly VAWA-Thread Joke: =========================================== A DOCTOR'S EXPERIENCE A man fell asleep on the beach for several hours and got horrible sunburn, specifically to his upper legs. He was promptly admitted to the hospital after being diagnosed with second-degree burns. What with the man's skin already starting to blister, and the severe pain he was in, the doctor prescribed continuous intravenous feeding with saline solution, electrolytes, a sedative, and a Viagra pill every four hours. The nurse, who was rather astounded, asked, "What good will Viagra do for him, Doctor?" The doctor replied, "It won't do anything for his condition, but it'll keep the sheets off his legs."
  3. Or, see if you can work remotely from the U.S.? If this is an inappropriate option, others will correct it.
  4. This has been the recommendation here, up to now.
  5. Always tell them the truth, yes. You can try a cheery "First Amendment stuff!" before or after your suggested reply. Technically, it's "agent," not "officer," so perhaps try "sir/ma'am" instead. You can try a 3-month absence, but wait a while before leaving again for that long.
  6. Thread is moved from the Bringing Family of USCs forum to the "Moving to the US" forum, where similar threads are found. --- George, this challenging topic is discussed in related threads here; see what you can gain from them and feel free to ask further.
  7. Here it is, on CC's behalf. K-1 More expensive than CR-1. Requires Adjustment of Status after marriage (expensive and requires a lot of paperwork). Spouse cannot leave the US until she/he receives approved Advance Parole (approx 3-6 months). Spouse cannot work until she/he receives EAD (approx 3-6 months) Some people have had problems with driver licenses, Social Security cards, leases, bank account during this period. Spouse will not receive Green Card for many months after Adjustment of Status is filed. A K-1 might be a better choice when 18-21 year old children are immigrating also. In some situations, marriage can affect certain home-country benefits, making a K-1 a better choice. A denied K-1 is sent back to USCIS to expire. K-1 entrant cannot file for citizenship until after having Green Card for 3 years. Once an I-129F has been approved, delaying the case is difficult to impossible if the need arises. Current Presidential executive order (travel bans) don't allow K-1 visa holders from some countries to enter the US. CR-1/IR-1 Less expensive than K-1. No Adjustment of Status (I-485, I-131, I-765) required. Spouse can immediately travel outside the US. Spouse is authorized to work immediately upon arrival. Spouse receives Social Security Card and Green Card within 2 or 3 weeks after entering the US. Opening a bank account, getting a driver's license, etc. are very easily accomplished with GC, SS card, and passport. Spouse has legal permanent Resident status IMMEDIATELY upon entry to US. The clock for citizenship filing starts immediately upon entry to the US. A CR-1/IR-1 case can be delayed indefinitely at NVC if the need arises. Current Presidential executive order (travel bans) exempt immediate relatives of US citizens.
  8. VDH lays it out. ~~~~~~~~~~~ What Is the Democratic Alternative to Trump? The Pavlovian Left goes berserk at the mere prospect of each new Trump initiative. Its escalating reactive venom and hysteria are calibrated to the success of Trump's latest policy. Yet the new hard-left Democratic Party offers no counter-agenda to explain its furor. Still less do Democrats attempt bipartisan efforts to craft shared legislation. Take foreign policy. Democratic senators trashed the recent Trump-Putin Alaskan summit as a failure. Then they became depressed when, just days later, an entourage of European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suddenly flew to the White House. The Euros praised Trump for offering some sort of negotiated pathway to peace after over three years of war and some 1.5 million dead, wounded, missing, and captured on both sides -- on Europe's doorstep. So why did Democrats object to such negotiations by Trump? Was the reason [...] https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2025/08/22/what_is_the_democratic_alternative_to_trump_153207.html

Each ES yielded the take, see man: -- short pants in our new size = $1, steal man -- pack construction paper = $1, deal man Total = $2
  12. It stands to reason that the passport card would work with TSA, because a regular passport does. A GE thread would be interesting.
  13. Thrilling Friday non-ES report, see man: Hip was OK when we awoke but got far worse later, ow ow OW OW OW man. Miu was surprisingly energetic in the a.m., energetic miu man. 14. Even on domestic trips, I've used my regular passport as ID, because it's easier than hastily fumbling to get my driver's license from my wallet and (it's hoped) putting it back in. On my most recent trip, I used my Global Entry card.

  17. That's great news! It's there!
  18. As with every prior phase of this immigration process: Read carefully, interpret literally, and respond completely & honestly. If it's not required, avoid reading something into situations that isn't there.
  19. Friday ES report, see man: We attended both, honorable we man. Both were worth visiting, si man. However, we found nothing, no man. Total = $0
  20. This. The general recommendation here is to stay out of the U.S. for twice as long as you spent there.
  21. Depending on the culture and the consulate, it certainly can be a factor.
  22. Old thread is locked -- the OP hasn't returned in 19 months. The most recent poster should please start a new thread.
  23. Puzzled DC Police Chief Asks Reporters, 'What Is This Black And White Car That Goes Wee-oo Wee-oo?' WASHINGTON, D.C. — A press conference to update the media on the department's ongoing efforts to rein in crime following President Donald Trump's threat to federalize the city was briefly interrupted today by a loud noise, leading DC Police Chief Pamela Smith to ask journalists what was causing it. The incident occurred as Smith was briefing reporters on her department's task of cleaning up the city's streets amid an increase in violent crime, with a loud wailing sound that seemed to emanate from several passing vehicles, much to the consternation of the police chief. "What is that black and white car that goes ‘wee-oo wee-oo' all the time?" she asked.
