Thanks everyone. I hope this is the case with Juarez that they are reasonable. Not sure why the US had to choose one of the most dangerous cities in Mexico to be the only place they'll process a K-1 visa... but oh well. I'm tempted to just put everything in an addendum- credit card statements, the whole kitchen sink 😉 We're even now living together in Xalapa, Ver with both out names on the apt lease so I don't see how anyone could claim we haven't met... haha
Thanks again!
Why not get married and do CR1?

Yes, I had my SSN within two weeks I think. I'm not sure how it works now with the covid, I had to wait for a few hours, the line started an hour before they open.
Thank you! Did you just go within a couple of days of arriving?

Sounds like a very prudent choice. Congratulations on your soon to have wedding! Will you need a different type of visa to visit him in Russia? Will a valid tourist visa work?
Only family members or spouses of Russian citizens can visit and you have to contact the embassy to obtain a private visa for this with proof of your marriage certificate
-
Yes you can file now because it will take 7.5-9.5 months for it to be approved before it's even sent to the embassy

Been back and forth a lot but we are ready to be married, I can actually visit Russia as his spouse, and our I-129F isn't that strong. I submitted it when we had met one time by accident on a cruise ship, we had 0 pics together. We have obviously gotten more now that we have met up again but it seems to be a more solid choice for us overall!!
What are the requirements that you've found for the marriage in mexico?

This.
For me. I personally didn’t want to have a ceremony then say goodbye. For an unknown amount of time. The variables other members mentioned such as money, less fees, AOS timing etc weren’t enough to win me over. Personal decision.
Same here

I am in the process of a K-1 visa, and we wish we went the CR-1 route for several reasons. Among all the already listed reasons, I currently rent and I'm finding that most rental agencies can not process applications without a SSN. Also, my fiance will be unable to travel back to visit his family for a long time. We will find a way to manage, but I believe it's definitely more inconvenient than a CR-1.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I believe you can apply for a social security number and receive one within a couple of weeks of arriving to the US, and after that happens you can just add your SO to the rental contract.

Omg! I didn't know this was a topic on here! I used to love this show until it started making me depressed that these idiots have gotten a visa and I haven't yet...

The Happily ever after stuff is funny sometimes.
Theres more of these spin-offs now I lost interest.
I will be honest though, I still check in once in a while with Paul and Karine, and Angela and Michael.
Angela and Michael are hilariously full of drama

Apparently Russians can travel to Serbia, visa free based on this website!! Looks like I'll be looking into Serbia as well.
This is the biggest reason why I'm still considering a K1.

Good thing about K1 is you could get it started now instead of waiting until conditions improve to try to figure out how to marry and then start the process. That's why I did K1. And now I'm only a couple months from possibly being approved

I thought about Mexico as well. I'm not familiar with the whole marriage process there but I believe Russians can visit.
From the US Embassy about marriage in Serbia:
https://rs.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/marriage/
The iffy part now is getting that appointment at the US Embassy to get the affidavit that you are free to marry. Oh and the birth certificate requires an Apostille? Ugh, bureaucracy...and translations into Serbian, this doesn't seem easy.
You beat me to this! Haha I was about to post that same link for serbia marriage-still pretty complicated.
I'd prefer getting married still in Russia or US

The main problem is entering Russia for a fiancé now... Also if the embassy in Moscow makes the appointments for getting an affidavit.
@Caboose29 in some discussions about a place to marry I remember mentioning Mexico. Also maybe Serbia.
Mexico does require a blood test and a few other things.
Serbia? I'd like to look into that one. Thanks!

I have. Not getting anything with a 72 hr guarantee. They all say usually results within....
Im hoping someone on VJ has had experience and would be willing to share where they got it done within 72hrs
I understand. Although it depends on your location within the US. I would specify where you are looking to get it done

Ok, so maybe it would require more work than I recall, but still seems reasonably feasible, no?
You should ask the person who posted before me about being married in turkey. It seems they did it and would know more.
-
Just do a Google search for ones that provide results same day or next day. But beware, it could cost a lot. Usually the cheap ones are those that give you results in several days or a week

I will admit that my assumption was based off of a couple of Turkish law firm websites/FAQs, and a cursory look at the Turkish government's website. I could easily have missed some pertinent info.
I would dig a bit deeper before you decide. Look at requirements by each government, countries you both can visit, testing requirements, quarantine requirements, see if offices are open, look at flights to the countries as well, especially transit flights where she may need a transit visa, etc. A lot more goes into marriage abroad than you would think, especially during this time.
Good luck!

Hi everyone,
When checking the USCIS website, are you using the receipt number to track the process or what are you tracking?
Yes you use the receipt number that starts with three letters

I'm half wishing we would have gotten married last month when she and I were in Istanbul for 2 weeks.
Turkey checks all those boxes.
Arranging a legal "JP" equivalent ceremony only requires 2-3 days lead time in Turkey. Russians can travel there with NO visa requirements. I think if we'd had the forethought to bring our divorce decrees we could have just done it while we were there last month. Are you sure about that? I've looked at the marriage requirements for turkey before for two foreigners and they aren't very simple...
Me and @Strawberrymermaid have both tried looking into marriage already several times and we still could find nothing simple during this time, which is why we've stuck with k1

I think we all lost our gusto after the November election. I'm still monitoring the results a bit but I wouldn't be surprised if it was called not until tomorrow or next Friday ☺️
