    The national law review is a reliable source of knowledge. This posting highlights some key points that would be your best FAQ for now. According to this article, the State department and DHHS still needs to provide the specifics.      Note  that one could obtain a low cost catastrophic or a visitor health Insurance plan. That may open some new options for those who are worried.   https://www.natlawreview.com/article/president-trump-introduces-health-insurance-requirement-immigrant-visa-applicants         Monday, October 14, 2019 According to a proclamation issued by President Donald Trump on October 4, 2019, the U.S. Department of State will begin issuing immigrant visas only to those foreign nationals who will have health insurance once admitted to the United States, or who can prove that they have the financial means to cover their own medical expenses.
    Details about this new requirement are limited. The following is a summary of what we know so far:
    When does the change go into effect?
    The new requirement is scheduled to go into effect on November 3, 2019.
    Who is affected?
    The new health insurance requirement applies to foreign nationals who apply for an immigrant visa at a U.S. consulate. The requirement does not apply to, among others:
    foreign nationals with a valid immigrant visa issued before November 3, 2019;
    foreign nationals applying for adjustment of status in the United States;
    children of U.S. citizens;
    nonimmigrant visa applicants (H-1B, L-1, etc.); and
    asylum seekers or refugees.
    What is changing?
    Before a consular officer can adjudicate or issue an immigrant visa, the foreign national applicant must establish that he or she “will be covered by approved health insurance” within 30 days of admission into the United States, or demonstrate that he or she has “financial resources” to pay for “reasonably foreseeable medical costs.”
    Approved health insurance coverage includes (but is not limited to):
    employer-sponsored plans;
    unsubsidized health plans (subsidized plans under the Affordable Care Act do not qualify);
    Medicare;
    short-term, limited-duration health policies;
    visitor health insurance plans;
    catastrophic plans;
    family members’ plans; and
    other plans deemed adequate by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
    What does all this mean in practice?
    According to the proclamation, the State Department may establish standards and procedures for determining who meets the health insurance requirement. Until that happens, it is unclear what proof of health insurance immigrant visa applicants will be required to produce or what kind of training consular officers will receive to guide their determinations.

    With or without Trump, the immigration restrictionist have a foot hold in Washington policy and Friends in high places. I am sure this policy is coming at the directive of Steven Miller, it has his fingerprints all over it. You can't get a visa because you are not insured, you can't get insurance because you are not a resident. Brilliant in it's Machiavellian glory.

    As stated before the exchanges - state and federal are NOT public assistance. They are not means tested benefits, regardless of if eligible or not for subsidy. The law has not changed in this regard - only a Presidential proclamation has decided this would be grounds for visa denial. This is why I feel it is problematic in language. The law has not changed, and still hasn't changed. The proclamation doesn't change the law either. That's why I expect lawsuits.

    The new public charge rules won't be a concern for those seeking ROC or Citizenship, and nothing in the proclamation will change that either.

    Also I just noticed the DOS revised it's bulletin as well to signal the wait for the new forms: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/ea/Information-on-Public-Charge.html

    Interesting.
    I could get insurance waivers if I affirm the Triune nature of God, affirm the divinity of Jesus, abstain from extramarital sex, drinking, tobacco and the occasional toke on the loco weed. Can Jews and Muslims get in on that?  Do we think this immigration law will accept this option?

    So how many here who are petitioning for relatives still think Trump's making America great again?

    Best sub hands down, r/eatasandwich. The debates about whether a taco is a sandwich pits brother against brother. The updates in Popeyes Chicken sandwiches are value added.

    You’re allowed to vote via international ballot. You’re only permitted to vote in Federal elections, based on your last known address in Canada to vote in your last rideing. Consult the Elections Canada site to submit the proper paper work. I just voted in the last election from Florida. Good luck!

    Hey gurl, congrats. You wear that bracelet and take it for what it is -- just a trinket to mark a really important day. No one actually needs a ring to get engaged -- stick around here on VJ long enough and you'll see that said enough times. Once you say you're engaged -- hey, that's it. Don't let these guys rattle you.

    I've been with my guy for eight years now and no ring. Doesn't mean he's not 100% committed. I know from his words and his deeds and the way he sings my praises to everyone who will listen that he loves me with every single part of his existence. (I passed the bar exam in May and he's still telling random people at supermarkets this fact because he's so proud.) Be well and be happy. And now I want an engagement bracelet knowing Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had one!

    Well, it's bedtime here and I shouldn't reply but I will. The bracelet is something that is an heirloom, not something that "nobody else in the family wanted." Yes, maybe he should have had a ring. Yes, maybe he should have planned it better. He didn't manipulate me into accepting the bracelet -- I think it's beautiful. And I will have the ring I want when I get back to California. Fenn can have the ring for all I care.

     As for my mother, she adores him. I'm sure she will think it's all fine. I do appreciate the comment that I should speak to friends though, and I will call some of our mutual friends tomorrow.
