I agree with you.  The law often doesn't keep up with the times and this is unfortunate because it needlessly hamstrings couples trying to make ends meet in an expensive country.  This should be looked at but don't hold your breath.
 
On an unrelated topic, another thing that vexes me is making the K-1 a single entry visa.  Spare me the fraud marriage argument for why this is done (if that is indeed an argument for it).
 
We are bringing human beings into this country, human beings with family, etc. in their home country.  Circumstances can arise over the course of a year that might require a return to their country.  That's why we have AP right?  Great, but it's taking most people at least four months (and in many cases significantly longer) to process this???  If you can't provide prompt turnaround in this regard then make K-1 a multi-entry visa in case something unthinkable happens and these people need to return home in a hurry to attend to personal affairs.
 

As I understand it, EAD/AP happens through the NBC (National Benefits Center).  When you get the I-485 status indicating your case is ready to be scheduled for an interview, that part of it then falls on your local office to schedule/conduct the interview.  Again, this is how I understand it.
 
I feel your pain on the EAD/AP wait.  It is my opinion EAD/AP should reconcile itself much quicker.  I feel for those who are waiting excessively and would stand to benefit while in the queue for a GC interview.  Clearly the process needs to be revamped/redesigned.  It's an unnecessary burden on beneficiaries.

I had this discussion the other day with my husband. I've been in the States for 7 months now and I'm getting so homesick, missing my friends and family and my hometown. 
There was even a death in my family that happened in July and I couldn't be there to attend the funeral 😔 
 
The single entry policy is just unnecessary and cruel. 
They could at least change the policy and put boundaries on it - for example, make it so we are allowed to return to our home country BUT maybe only for a limited amount of days or something. Anything would be better than this ridiculous single entry rule. 

Thanks for the input.  I still stand by my post.  This antebellum practice should be revisited.

You got your GC so fast you can use your combo card (EAD/AP), when it arrives, as a toothpick going forward.  Congrats.
 
Update!  Sorry, just read EAD/AP will be denied.  That process was sure a great use of taxpayer money.  Still, you're beaming with the GC on its way so enjoy.

I've been a silent observer for the past couple of months. I just wanted to share our good news. I got a text message and e-mail this morning stating Interview Was Scheduled for my husband's AOS.
Here's our timeline:
09/24/19- submitted AOS packet
09/27/19- received
10/16/19- Biometrics
11/15/19- Ready to be schedule for Interview
12/06/19- Interview Scheduled
 
We live in California so I never expected this so soon. Still grateful though.  Hoping for good news for all of you too!

I want to say that's a normal status... one of those 'in between' statuses.

Pretty sure that is fairly typically. Chances are your case will change to card is being produced early next week. People tend to WAY overthink things. You do not tons of of proof for AoS interview from K-1. They know people have limited amount of resources, cannot work, some do not even have SSN, so not much is needed. We had 3 pages of pictures and some documents with shared account names (like utilities etc) 
They do not spend looking at that, they are rather talk to person and get a feel for the answers. Usually it is a friendly conversation, not really interrogation. 

It's my understanding the biometrics appointment has no applicability to the I-131.  I could be wrong but that's my understanding.  From what I heard, the biometrics are more for the I-485 and I-765.
 
For my I-485 and I-765 cases online, I see something in there for biometrics.  The I-131 status hasn't changed since it was first created and that was well before our biometrics appointment.
