No consequences for filing single when married unless you are employed by the IRS.  THEN...you could be fired....BUT this is an immigration forum, so answers are best given in an immigration context.  I repeat, since 2005, I've seen MANY people file single and amend later, with ZERO impact on the spouse visa process.  I've already indicated that doing so is "improper".  Again, do you have any evidence of filing single having any impact at all on anybody's spouse visa process?  If you did, you would have answered that question earlier instead of continuing this nonsense.

Same here and my spouse still hasn’t fixed his tax return for that year 4 years ago. If I had come to this forum first I may have unnecessarily freaked out and tried to make him amend it (which looks like it takes several months now) and delay our process but up to OP what he wants to do.

We have a very similar timeline! Both had biometrics at the end of August, and both in New Jersey. Best of luck! 🤞

Thanks! Yes my status is still stuck on case was received. Hope we hear something soon🤞

I hope you found the MSC topic here on VJ. I thought I hyperlinked it but it didn’t work apparently

Congrats! I literally am re-doing my I-864 right now because I got a new job. (I moved back to the US two months ago to re-establish domicile.) We emailed the consulate and they said "Your husband may bring an updated I-864 to his interview. It can be scanned." (Paraphrasing but that's the main point.) My husband is also taking my offer letter and a pay stub. I don't think that means he will definitely be asked about for this stuff but rather have overkill! We also have a joint sponsor (my brother, unmarried with no kids). I'm nervous even though our case is straightforward!

His interview is Tuesday! Any other tips?!

Thank you. Ok great, yea better to have and not need. I had a thick folder of documents and they only asked to see about 5 of the documents but I had them all just in case.

My tip would be to answer questions concise and not offer too much more information than what they asked for. Not that you’re trying to hide anything, not at all but sometimes saying more than you were asked about can open the door to even more questions and a longer or potentially more complicated interview.

If your file is already been accepted at the NVC and sent to Sydney , just take anything new or changed in supporting documentation to the interview. You can complete a new I864 to reflect your new confirmed employment and offer it to the Consular Officer.

Dont forget to enjoy the view out the huge plate glass window on the left end of the Sydney Consulate offices. Magnificent !

Hi there. You said he ‘can’ take a new i864 and wondering if that means it’s not necessary?

Sort of a similar situation, my husband has just changed jobs and making more income. I was going to just have him email me the offer letter to take to the interview but a new i864 means he would probably have to courier it since it’s signed and embassy would need original. Thanks!

    Have there been any updates?

I've been busy wedding planning so sorry I don't drop in as much as I use to. We're 2 weeks away!

Congrats! Yes. I got IL on the 12th for interview October 1st!! Did medical last week Wednesday so just the wait for interview next week.

The embassy did end up delaying it seems but they moved the notice down from the site and look like they’re back on schedule!

How long does it take to get your passport back once they approve?

Don’t worry your time will come soon enough. Best wishes to us all, god willing we receive wonderful news soon! 🙏

Yay!!! Finally. Glad you got DQ! Yes I pray we all get our ILs soon :D I'm doing ok. Nassau where I am and where the embassy is located did not get a direct hit thank goodness but I believe they cancelled scheduled interviews to focus on those who were directly affected. Thank you for the well wishes!

Update: Interview on the 10th of  September
    Did my medical last Thursday.
I was thinking they gave us the report but I called bay street medical and they stated they will issue the report to the embassy.
I don't know if i pass it or not lol no one called yet or said anything and the interview is next Tuesday.

Hey. I haven’t gotten an interview appointment yet. Still waiting on NVC to schedule my appointment with the embassy so I haven’t done anything yet. I say let me check the embassy website to see if there’s any notice relating to the hurricane and their operations (although I don’t think there should be any major effect in Nassau with them) and see this notice:

Please be advised that Immigrant Visa Interviews that were scheduled for September 10th, 2019 have been cancelled. Also note that responses to routine inquiries are currently suspended and will be delayed in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. We appreciate your patience and consideration during this time.

Do you know when your appointment will be and this prob mean I would be delayed also...

Ugh this whole process is so sad! I’ve had to re submit a form on August 1st and anxiously waiting:( I’ve called NVC yesterday and after being on hold for over an hour they only told me what I already knew! Which is.. they’re working on cases dated July 19 :) lol 😂She was not nice at all, I couldn’t get any information from her! She said what she wanted to say and hung up on me 😳 I believe someone from here got DQ last week and they submitted July 24th... So I’m so confused on how they process cases! I pray our time comes soon!🙏🏼

I pray you hear something soon!

    Hi everyone

me and my husband are on our 4th RFE..... We filed with a lawyer and we keep getting the RFE's over the same one document (a tax paper of my american husband). The rfe seems to be the lawyers fault (they uploaded it wrong way the first time, then the 2nd time they sent in "too much" of my husbands taxes were just some of the reasons we were given by our lawyer for the RFE's etc). My husband makes more then enough money and there is nothing wrong with his stuff.

    my question is

we are almost on 6 months now after sending all of our documents/all fee's paid to NVC (with all the RFE's we keep getting) we sent/paid everything to NVC begining of April here. Im from Canada and my police certificate we had to send to NVC expires within 6 months of getting it and I got my police certificate the same month we sent it to NVC. Is NVC gunna require a NEW police certificate from me if we are still waiting to hear back from them for our current RFE we just got last night in our email (which will probably be another month wait, making it 7 months since april)

    I hope that made sense...

Hi Mika, So I took this from nvc website:

Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

    • You are more than 16 years old;
    • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
    • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

    This is the link:

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/collect-and-submit-forms-and-documents-to-the-nvc/step-5-collect-supporting-documents.html

Nvc just gave me DQ with my police certificate being 6 months old and Nvc didn’t say anything about it. I hope I helped!
