  2. Hi guys , we just got back from our AOS marriage based interview at the LA office. We arrived at 9 but checked in at 10:15 for our 10:30 interview and didn’t get called in until after 1 pm! Today was the first day of interviews at this center, according to the officer we got. My spouse and I went in one at time with the officer because that was how they were doing things for everyone at the moment. We got approved after about 15 mins for each of us. Questions she asked:

    When did we meet.
    How did we meet.
    When he proposed.
How many times I went to visit him in his country.
Does he get along with my ex.
When and where we got married.
How many people lived in our house.
    Do our parents approved.
Where we worked. What we did for work.
Very basic stuff we should all know.

Thanks for everyone’s support, and good luck to everyone on their journey.

My interview was scheduled at 8:15am as well! We were checked in by 8:20am and waited for about 30min. I remember heading back down to the lobby close to 10am. There’s a parking lot across the street as well for convenience. Hoping you land a great and experienced interviewer as it truly makes a difference in the speed they conduct the review. All the best and thank you!

Thank you for the extra info and well wishes! I might have to take an extra hour off of work just in case. Goodness, I hate going into downtown LA but hopefully it will be short.

194 days from receipt date-  case approved! Our interview was in the Los Angeles Field office. It lasted for about 20 minutes, mainly going over the paperwork— specifically our basic information and the I-485 questions. We had our baby with us and arrived 30 mins earlier to take into account security checks. Our IDs and appointment letter were asked for before entering the building and my ID (the applicant) again during checkin at the field office.

The person in charge of our case was really cool— he went through our application quite fast showing his experience. He then requested for any additional documents to show proof of marriage that we collected between the period of submission and the interview. Not any questions on our relationship (on how we met, how we fell in love, etc). Made a correction to our baby’s birth date as well. He approved us on the spot giving me a 10 year card and the status update email from USCIS came in a few hours after. Very lucky indeed as we just had our 2 year anniversary days before the interview making me eligible for the 10 year card.

Tip: Dress nicely, as if going to a job interview. Keep tabs on your folders (I scrambled in pressure) even though I knew everything was in order! Take a second to understand each question.

    Wishing everyone the best!

Hi, we have our interview scheduled for next month and need to know how long the whole interview in the LA office lasted, as our interview is at 8:15 and I have to get to work by 11. Can you let me know how long yours took? Congrats on your approval!

  5. My fiancé had his biometrics today. Thought we were processed by Santa Ana office but instead were assigned the one in El Monte in Los Angeles county.  The place was full and it took an hour to be done. He just needed his appointment letter and passport.

What can we expect in terms of the interview date? Are we looking at months from now? We are trying to mesh our finances and getting his name on bills and insurances as proof for the greencard interview but some of this is taking longer than I expected.

Has anyone heard anything about field office probably in santa ana? How are the times?

Joining the September filings. We sent ours out on Friday and it arrived Monday according to USPS. We are in a hurry to get the travel permit to go to a wedding overseas in next May, so we hope the process goes quickly. I think our office is in Santa Ana also, so I hope to hear any info about it too.

I'm not sure my field office is Dallas and I'm  sure there are lots of others there so I expect a longer wait than 4 to 6 months. Actually I'm expecting at least 12 months, my luck has ran that way the whole   K1 process. But at least we are together with our loved ones so the wait is bearable IMO.

Hope yours go quickly, Sarge. You’ve waited long enough.

Yes, they can do that. I don't quite understand why some regular police certificates have everything on it and some don't.  A number of people have said their police certificate and SAR said the exact same thing.

Congratulations on the fiancé arrival.  When are you getting married?

Thank you! We are looking for rings this weekend and hope to get the civil ceremony done next week, and then one for our family later this fall. I hope folks who go through this issue don’t get too worried about stuff that happened decades ago as teen. Highly doubt they will get denied for minor things, but just know to be prepared if they are in a time crunch, as we were.

We were lucky it was only a week delay, because we need to travel out of the country next May so needed everything to move fast. Thanks for all your help and all of those on these forums. I’ll write my fiance’s Poe review soon.

And then there's this one who got the "No Live Trace" certificate this year and explains the delay after interview. It makes me wonder if they didn't specify it was for immigration. Anyway, you know what to do when it comes in if the charges aren't shown.

    Hi Wuozopo,

Yes, my fiancé had specified it was for immigration, and there was no information regarding what happened when he was 18 on the police certificate. My fiancé is in the US as of now, and we have yet to get the SAR or police statements sent to us. This leads me to believe that the embassy just called ACRO to verify what happened , and then issued the visa.

It was 10 o'clock tonight when my phone notified me of a status update and as of August 20th we're approved!

It feels so good I just keep reading the message over and over again. Right now my fiance is asleep in Turkey. I sent her the message and it's exciting that she will see it when she wakes up. To celebrate I decided to choose one of our engagement photos for my avatar.

Thank you to all of you who have been so patient with me and offered all of your help and support!

I know there is still more work to do, but for now I really feel things can move forward.

Congratulations!! It’s been a long wait for you. Happy you can continue on!

  11. Hi Everyone,

Our K1 Visa was approved today, a week after my fiancé had his interview, but I thought I’d share his experience with what happened so others could be prepared.

We thought we had everything we needed at the interview but was not aware that having the “no live trace” on the police certificate would pose problems at the interview. We didn’t read the embassy website carefully enough.

Anyways, my fiancé had a caution given to him when he was a teen, and the person interviewing him told him they needed to check this out. At the interview, he was given the 221(g) form with instructions to call ACRO and write down what the cautions were given for, and to email that to the embassy. He also had to tell ACRO to give the embassy permission to call to verify. My fiancé did this shortly after he left the interview.

In addition, he requested a subject access request (SAR) on the ACRO website and went to his local police station to get copies of statements made at the time the cautions were given. He then emailed the embassy a few days after the interview to see if what he sent them in his email was adequate. He received a generic reply that they will contact him, but even with the visa issued today, he has not received any further email from the embassy regarding the matter, and he has not yet received the SAR or the statements from the police station.

Check your police certificates, and if it says “no live trace” on there, it would probably be a good idea to order a subject access request (SAR) through the ACRO website a few months before the interview, and perhaps get copies of statements made to the police at your local police station regarding the incident that took place. This may possibly prevent receiving a 221(g) and a delay, or at least shorten the delay some. The SAR is free to request and can take up to a month to receive. Same with the police statements.

Hi @Greenbaum, does the UK have a P3? If so, could I get a link please? Happy to compare and update you if I receive one from the embassy (if they exist of course).

Jamdie, come over to the UK forum. The packet3 is basically just a letter you get from the London embassy telling you that they received your case from NVC and tells you to go apply for the Visa (do the medical, set up the interview). It’s basically for people who aren’t on these forums. Here’s a link to a thread discussing this:

Hmm, now I'm confused (even more😜

screenshot from the https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ Why does it list DS-160 under Non-immigrant? Please, clarify.

    Screen Shot 2019-07-30 at 09.48.44.png

The K1 visa is actually a non-immigrant visa, which is why you need to fill out DS160, but the people who deal with your case process it under the immigrant visa division when you go to do your interview and check status on CEAC.

Just a couple of additional questions:

    1. At CEAC, do I choose Immigrant or Non-immigrant?

    2. Do I fill in DS 160 or DS 260?

    3. When making an appointment at the embassy through https://ais.usvisa-info.com/ , do I select Immigrant or Non-immigrant?

Sorry for asking all this, I do know K-1 is a non-immigrant, but sometimes is treated as an immigrant visa and I just fail to remember when am I supposed to use which option 🤯

    1. Immigrant

    2. DS160

    3. Immigrant
