    bel044 reacted to portorusa in CR1/IR1 -> AOS > I-485 interview
My husband had his I-485 interview yesterday and was approved on the spot!😃
Background: We abandoned CR1 consular processing - at the last stage, i.e. post-interview abroad. My husband was visiting me on VWP when corona arrived and we decided to switch to AOS and filed in April.
The I-485  interview lasted about 30 min. and went smoothly. The officer (a woman) was very knowledgeable, experienced and extremely nice.
Apart from regular questions (on when and how we met, the first visit time and duration, husband's biographical info, previous marriages/divorces, children, the date of last entry to the US, and security questions on terrorism/prostitution) there were questions related to I-944 form. Initially with our AOS package we included only proof of medical insurance and proof of absence of credit score. The officer asked  about husband's educational background, work history, military service abroad, knowledge of English and our assets/debts as a couple. "Are you working now? Where?" but she did not ask how much he earns in the US nor did she ask for any proof of his work here. She asked if he had a SSN number (yes) and put it in the computer. She asked if he applied for any public benefits (he did not) and was satisfied with the answer. She never asked for my husband's credit score/credit report.
There was a full understanding that we were adjusting his status from VWP due to pandemic, and that we switched from consular processing. The officer said she did not need I-864, taxes for 2019, children's birth certificates or proof of medical insurance in the US because all that info was available in the digital file. She asked to show her what we brought to prove a bona fide relationship (of which we had plenty). She accepted those bearing our two names (bank account statements, credit cards, auto insurance, utility bills and a motorhome title). She was not interested in our photos together, proof of communication, or proof of many trips to see each other (hotel receipts, border passes, etc).
At the end she said she was approving his I-485, congratulated and explained that as the marriage was more than 2 years old, no removal of conditions was necessary and that 3 years later my husband could apply for US citizenship. She told to expect a green card in the mail within 1-3 weeks.
We did not expect such an outcome and were in shock and bewilderment. In fact, we had been mentally prepared to a postponed approval due to our case circumstances because our file - including some original documents - is still in Paris...We thought the USCIS would have to ask the Embassy in Paris to transfer the case back through NVC and that it would take weeks if not months. Turned out everything was already here in the digital form and was considered by the interviewing officer.
Only back at the parking lot I realized I forgot to ask for I-151 stamp for my husband's passport.
What was most confusing: The officer never asked for I-693 results (still with us and in sealed envelope)! That means all the time and $$ spent on obtaining it here were in vain. Oh well...Maybe she accepted the medical exam results done by my husband in Paris a year ago?

I was almost in your exact same shoes.  Husband came over on an ESTA and then corona happened, so we decided to do AOS.  UPS said our package was delivered on 4/7.  His ESTA expired on 4/8.  We didn't hear from USCIS until 4/30, so we were VERY nervous for those 3.5 weeks.  My anxiety had me worried ICE would show up at our front door 😂. I was so relieved when we finally heard back. The NOA said that our petition was indeed received on 4/7 (just took them 3.5 weeks for them to notify us!), so I don't think he actually accumulated any overstay since it says right on the receipt notice that they received the AOS one day before his ESTA expired😅.  Anyway--long story short--if yours is like ours, I think you should be fine.

Hello, just thought I'd update you all.  We received the automated texts from USCIS last night and the funds were taken out from my account this morning.  I expect our NOA1 to come via mail any day now.  Our petition was delivered on April 7, so it took 3.5 weeks before we finally heard anything.

Only used paperclips for attaching the check and passport photos.  Had nothing else since all of my office supplies are at work and now I'm working from home.  I've heard they scan everything at the lockbox so it may just be more work for USCIS to un-attach a bunch of paper clips.

Also, I've called USICS two times and plan to call back again tomorrow if there's still nothing.  The second time they gave the email address for the Chicago Lockbox Support.  I emailed them on Monday and still nothing.  In case any of you want the email address, here it is:  lockboxsupport@uscis.dhs.gov

The USCIS customer service rep said to include in the email:  my name and DOB, spouses name and DOB, date sent to lockbox, and mailing address.

I've seen a few people in the March AOS forum who have still not received anything either.  Hoping they're just moving really slow.

Our case (received at Chicago Lockbox on 24th March) was accepted for processing!  NOAs sent out on 21st April (28 days from receipt to NOAs sent).

Found out through USCIS support this morning. Checks/cheques not cashed yet.  Didn’t receive text messages (we had submitted the notification form though).

Appreciate all of your support.  Wishing for good news for those of you waiting.

bel044 got a reaction from TLi in Form I-693 - when to file
I had the same question.  I found this in the i-485 instructions:

"You are NOT required to submit Form I-693 at the time you file your adjustment application, but may do so if you wish. Because of the time-limited validity of Form I-693, you may choose to submit your Form I-693 after you file your Form I-485. You may also submit Form I-693 in person at an interview in a USCIS field office, if an interview is required. By waiting to submit Form I-693, you may avoid having to repeat the immigration medical examination."

She will have to fill out the I-864A and be classified as a household member.  You'll also need her W-2s and tax returns/transcripts.

Yup, no issue. Follow the guide above for the general items needed.

As for the particulars since you have an approved I-130 already...
Once you file the I-485 (include a copy of the I-130 approval notice) packet, USCIS is supposed to then request the I-130 from NVC before scheduling the AOS interview.
Sometimes that request takes longer than expected to happen and the IO doesn't have it for the interview, so they need to (at least) hold off a final decision until it is obtained from NVC. No issue..just more waiting.
In rare cases, USCIS may ask for an I-824. This should not be necessary...it's the role of USCIS to request it from NVC, not the petitioner's responsibility.

To everyone concerned about how this virus will affect this visa process...know that the NVC is still currently reviewing and accepting documents. Don't give up hope and God willing everyone will get DQ soon! WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS. Most important thing right now is to get DQ. Try no to worry about embassies closing or cancelling appointments for the moment.  We just need to get this virus under control, then things should, God willing, return to normal. Look at China for example, they probably didn't see an end in sight when this all started, but little by little, things are starting to improve over there. Our spouses may be far but if they are healthy, that is the most important thing right now. Stay strong, keep the faith and stay healthy, fellow VJ family!! We're so close!! Just. A little. More. ❤️
