That’s fast. Your passport application was sent off last Wednesday?

Not needed. The book covers that.

No I went in person to the passport office here in Houston because I am traveling on a cruise this Saturday. You can get a passport in a few days/same day if you have travel plans within two weeks. Just I paid like 225 for the passport and the expedite fee.

And no the passport card wouldn’t serve me any good as I usually travel by air and internationally. So i just got the book. I have no reason to drive to Canada lol

Congratulations, let us know how it went, and if spouses are allowed to watch the ceremony please.

They say it starts at 8 o’clock on the letter but didn’t start until 10 ..it was 1351 people and 111 countries. The speaker and judge gave excellent speeches. Yes family is allowed to come in and watch.

Finally done with my immigration journey , it’s going to feel weird not grabbing my green card when I am traveling abroad. Your GC picture will be on your naturalization certificate.

  3. Just curious as I was going over the form we have to bring to the ceremony. Has any one ever gotten a traffic ticket/violation a few days before their oath ceremony? If so what did you have to do? Do they still let you do the oath etc I am talking a few days before ceremony and you don’t have time to pay the ticket etc .

Just curious if something like this would be a non issue or they make a big deal out of it.

Did anyone have issue with using stylus pen in the interview? I just tried at home on my iPad, and I don’t like it all. Can I ask them  to write on a paper with a regular pen instead ? 🙂

    Don’t sweat it.

i had mine 2 Fridays ago and I just drew in the pad with my finger. It wasn’t pretty but they just want to make sure you can write correctly and spell sentences.

Dont worry it isn’t a penmanship test

  6. Had my interview 3 days ago 4/19 and Oath was scheduled this morning for Wed May 8th at 8am. So, 3 days from interview to Oath Scheduled. Thanks to the good Lord!

Details about emergency passports can be found here...

Unless it's a life or death emergency that you must travel at the end of May, I wouldn't be postponing my oath as you do not know when the next one that you would be invited to would be. But that's just me...

MY wife would probably divorce me if i asked her to cancel this trip that she has been wanting to go on for years and its our anniversary and everything is already paid for and literally all our family is going already so cancelling is not an option. LOL I am not in a rush I know the IO said to just reschedule people do it all the time if they have to travel she said its pretty common but if i could get a passport in a few days and pay a hundred bucks or two i don't mind just to be done with it.

Did they schedule for oath ??

Nah but I see they are doing it within 30-45 days which would push me right at the edge.

  8. Had interview today and passed here in Houston. Traveling at the end of May to go out of the country (MY WIFE DOES NOT WANT TO CANCEL THIS TRIP). Assuming my Oath is next month, Has anybody successfully taken the Oath and applied for an emergency/urgent passport right after due to already booked traveled plans? If so, could you please explain the process and where I would need to go in order to do this, if this situation comes up.

I would have rescheduling it as a last option as I am ready to be done with this immigration journey!

    Thanks

I naturalized at the end of April last year with required work travel booked before my ceremony was even scheduled.  Attend your ceremony, get your certificate and then when it's within 10 days of travel, call DoS and ask for an emergency appointment.  The caveat here is that you may not get an appointment where you live - you may have to travel within the US for your appointment.  Additionally, you may not get a same day passport.  It's often next day passport, so you have to be prepared to spend 2 days sitting in a passport office.

When you do get your appointment, you will have to provide the passport officer your evidence of travel in addition to your passport application and naturalization certificate.  You will get the naturalization certificate back when you pick up your passport.  Make sure you CHECK the passport for correctness before you leave the building.  Mine had a typo which lead to an additional 3 hours of waiting for a reprint of the passport.

Were you able to do this locally in Houston?

  10. Submitted date 1/23/2024

    Interview Sceduled 3/14/2024

    Interview date 04/19/2024

Well had my interview first thing this am in Houston. Time was 7am but arrived 15 mins before and checked in, did biometrics etc after that. Got called maybe 10 minutes later or so by the IO. She was very very very nice. Did civics test and got all 6 first try, very easy questions. Then the yes no and we chatted a bit. Asked my wife's name, kids name where I live etc. It was very easy going and we joked and laughed a bit about somethings. Approved on the spot.

Waiting for Oath to be scheduled. I informed her that I have traveled plans at the end of May and she said no big deal just reschedule your Oath, they make it easy to do this.

Overall, 10/10 experience with the office and this officer.
