Hi,
How long does it take to get a work permit after filing for AOS? Would it be better to fill for AOS or do OPT instead then do AOS? currently living in Texas and wanted an idea of how long the work permit takes?
Thanks

No, your office is determined by your physical address. See the first link I posted above to determine what office covers your area.
You send the forms to an address in accordance with the rules defined by USCIS: https://www.uscis.gov/i-485-addresses. Once filed, they will direct the applications to the correct areas for processing.
The EAD (and AP) are usually processed at the National Benefits Center (NBC). ETA: ~4 months.
Thank you sooo much for the fast replies.

Once you successfully file, you're fine since it grants authorized stay. It may take them a week to a month to send the NOA1 to acknowledge it so you have proof of filing / authorized stay, but you're covered once they accept the filing. Secondly, marriage to a USC means any overstay is ignored for AOS purposes. A five month window far more than sufficient to get the NOA1.
Most AOS applications are taking 8-12 months, but do vary heavily from office to office and case to case. There is more than 1 field office in Texas.

Thanks a lot !
I am close to basically San Antonio , Houston and the Harlingen Office. In the middle of them all. Do I get to choose which office I file at? Harlingen seems to Have the least amount of time to process! Also after filing how long does it approx take to get a work card ?

Hi guys,
F1 student here and me and my fiancee are getting married in may and going to file for my AOS/i130 ASAP. I am supposed to leave the US 60 days after my last class which is in October. Just curious how long does it usually take for USCIS to get the paper work to start the process. I understand that once the paperwork has started I can remain in the Us even if my time has expired in October. Just making sure that the 5 month window I have will be sufficient. Also has anybody done AOS from f1 in Texas? If so how long did it take and what office processed it.
Thanks

Hi
Me and my Fiancée who is a citizen are getting married in May. I am an F1 student who finishes school in August and they give students 60 days to leave the county, so by October I would have to leave We are going to apply for my AOS in June . My question is, will I be able to stay in the US after I finish school? I don't want to mess up my status.

Married in Vegas with only a work colleague as witness at the commissioners office, so the cheapest least stereotypical Vegas way of getting married, I was asked why no family there but once I explained why they were fine with it.
Whatbwas your reasoning just curious? You can PM if you like

The OP clarified the initial thread. They are getting married in February, and his F1 is good until August when they finish school.
To the OP, as others have said, file the AOS soon after marriage. You may also want to talk to the international office at your school to make sure with the AOS there is no impact to you F1.
Good Luck!
Thanks will do !!

This is a DIY website. Most everyone here is doing it themselves, which is possible except in the most complicated of situations. Read the guides on the process.
Thanks where can I find these guides? Sorry for all the questions

Hi,
Had anybody used rapid visa with success? Is there any other places that can help with the paper work besides them? Or can some one point me in the best direction or have a GOOD guide how to file paper work in General?
Thanks

Was this your plan when you arrived on your F-1 or is this something you decided after?
After I have been living in the US for about 9 months before I met my gf. We dated for a year plus and decided that we love each other and wanted to get married

Hi,
ME and my fiancee were going to get married at a courthouse and have a small ceremony. None of our parents or family members will be there. Would USCIS find this suspicious than none attended our court room ceremony? What would you tell the interviewer if they asked this question.
Thanks

I agree, if you are getting married in August you will need to do the spousal visa application. As to the original question, Tinder will not be an issue, many people meet online.
Good Luck!
Hi,
I should note that I am an F1 student and currently live in the US. I worded my statement wrong. We are getting married in February. My last day of classes are in August. So I would be doing AOS. Would I be able to remain in the US whiles waiting on my green card?

Hi,
I am currently a F1 student living in the US. My last day of classes are in August 2018. I met my gf on tinder and we fell in love and are in the process of getting married. We plan to marry in February 2018. After we marry and file can I remain in the US whiles waiting on my green card? Also, has anybody else on the F1 visa met their spouse on tinder? Was the process difficult?
Thanks

No you just have to figure out if you are going to apply for a fiance visa before you leave, after you leave, or if you will get married before then file CR1 or what your next plan of action is. That's up to you. Are you subject to the two year residency rule?
I have no idea whats the 2 year rule. We are getting married in august and then sending in the paper work right away. I just want to make sure that meeting on tinder wont cause any delay in the process. I already searched and it says tinder isn't an IMBRA and that I should print out the terms of service. Just was making sure that there isn't anything else I needed to provide.

I should also note that I met my fiancée whiles I was in the US. I am currently an F1 student finishing up school this August if that matters.

It shouldn't be an issue, but be sure to include the terms of use or service with your paperwork. That way you'll be covered for IMBRA.
You mean from the tinder website? Just want to make sure that there is no misconstrued information. Also what is IMBRA

Hi,
ME and my fiancée have been dating for over a year and I proposed to her because I want to spend the rest of my life with her. Me and her met on Tinder. Would this be an issue if we said we met on tinder or it shouldn't matter when we go to the USCIS interview thanks?

Hi,
I am currently an F1 student that is finishing up school in August of this year. I met my girlfriend who just so happens to be from the same country that I am from online and we have been dating for over one year. We fell in love and got engaged. We weren't planning on having a wedding because we don't feel the need to spend money on one and we're going to the JP or courthouse to get married. She wants to keep her last name (her decision) after we get married My question is would these look suspicious ? Also would it matter that we met online? She wants Finally if we went through the green card process would I be able to remain in the US if my last class date is in August ? We live at the same apartment etc , mail come to the same place etc.
Thanks

Hi,
I live in texas and I am an F1 Student . I have a hunting license as well as a conceal handgun license. I bought a rifle gun to do some hunting. Will owning a gun affect me in getting a green card when me and my fiancée get married? Is there any questions on the forms asking about gun owner ship? Just want to make sure all will be good.Had anybody ever been in a similar situation ?
