If you do get a separate plastic sleeve or other holder, ensure it's acid free.

Technically, yes, he was detained on both examples you provided. The litmus test for detention is always as follows: 1) were you free to leave on your own without having to ask them?  If no, then you were detained.

FWIW, you can always ask LEOs and customs officer if you are being detained so there's no ambiguity.

In addition to whatever else USCIS enumerated in the letter he got referring to his biometrics, he needs to bring all his fingers, and his face.

Hi CookieCat, thanks for your response!

From what I read on the link above, it indicated that petty theft can be an exception to CIMT if..
    •The “petty offense” is the only CIMT the applicant has ever committed;

•The sentence imposed for the offense was six months or less; and

•The maximum possible sentence for the offense does not exceed one year.

Which actually all apply to my case. I've consulted a few immigration lawyers regarding the matter and they've told me that the offense should not be grounds for not ineligibility. So in this case, do you think I can move forward on my own?

As a side note, if I do wait for the 5 years and apply in 2018 - what will happen to my status then? From my understanding, my status as a permanent resident does not expire after 10 years but the green card does?

Yes. You will have an opportunity to change your name during naturalization.
Some names that are already been taken:
    Dom Perignon Champagne
    Destinee Hooker
    Preserved Fish
    Sir Cosmo Duff Gordon

Tom_Jim got a reaction from S_R in US green card holder: can I leave US for over 6-months but under 1-year?
Ironically enough, filing for citizenship may be an issue for some people (I'm not inferring the OP is in this boat). Some LPRs don't file for citizenship because they may have had class A demeanors, or maybe even some felonies. Filing for citizenship may render them ineligible to naturalize, so they keep their LPR status.

Leave the codependency behind. If it's that difficult for you to say no, then, say yes.

Only a handful of district offices offer same-day naturalization ceremonies. Even then, it doesn't mean you will naturalize that day. You're required to inform USCIS and have 10 days of moving to inform them. If you receive subsequent correspondence in the mail (for same-day naturalization as it was in my case, the last correspondence from USCIS in the post was indeed my interview letter) for RFEs, etc., they will mail it to you to whatever address you have in their system. If you do not change your address, they will continue to send posts to your old address and you may miss time-sensitive documents from them, which in turn, may delay and/or jeopardize your application.

Were you on an MTA SelectBus? If so, you were fined for fare evasion wherein you were issued a citation and technically pleaded guilty by paying the fine. This is not a traffic violation and doesn't fall under the "Other Documents" instructions for evidence of violations under $500. You were, and are, required to report this on your N-400.

The OP is doing the right thing by going to a lawyer.
