Do we sign the I-751 in blue ink or black ink or it does not matter.

The instructions say "Type or print legibly in black ink".

Did anyone sign in blue?

Thanks.

we are going to sign in black ink. quick question, do we need to send the small passport photos with this application? and do we need to fill out a biometrics application as well?

sign in black or blue, we do not need to send passport photos, they will take one when you go for biometrics. You do need to pay the biometrics fee, but only fill the I-751 form!

ALWAYS sign in blue. There have been a few threads here and there where RFE's have been given for not sending "original documents". It's not worth the hassle.

canadian_wife is definately right. For my k-1 I signed all the paperwork in blue and had my fiance sign in blue also. BUT If the instructions say black, then use black. Always do as they say in instructions.

It is ALWAYS best to follow the instructions but the "type or write legibly in black ink" is referring ONLY to the form information and not to the signature itself. If it were, it would be above the signature box, and not at the top of the form.

This is the actual signature info: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=9453d59ae8a8e010VgnVCM1000000ecd190aRCRD&vgnextchannel=fe529c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD no mention of pen colour. BUT here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=bf309b5d82420210VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD&vgnextchannel=68439c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD (still USCIS page) it talks about the H1B visa "Original signatures, preferably in blue ink, are required on each form." (just Ctrl+f for blue). You'll notice the question reads "How do I ensure that my H-1B Cap subject petition is considered properly filed and accepted?" so I would think this was across the board... but it isn't a technical "requirement".

DO NOT use red. That sounds redundant but it's an "official" colour and one THEY use on your forms as well. No need for the confusion.

Black. Always use black ink. Blue ink doesn't transmit properly.

"transmit"??? where am I transmitting this to??

Many photocopiers and fax machines mask the color blue. During my time in the military, official documents had to be signed in black ink for that reason.

Additionally, the use use of blue highlighters is prevalent in many offices, so you can see what could happen there.

A quick search of the USCIS site does show a preference for some documents, i.e. G-28, to be signed in blue ink to verify an original signature. Some forms like the I-693 can be filled out in either blue or black ink. It may not matter, it seems, unless specified in the instructions, or the form.

I signed mine in blood; I'd figure they knew I was serious about my application. :)

Passage Revelation 19:11:

11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

"satan is real and he's playing for keeps
God is realer and we are His sheep
which side are you on, CHOOSE, start moving your feet
choose JESUS and have ETERNAL PEACE" by GOD to me on 9/26/10 about 2am
Thank you Jesus!!!!

Ok, this seems absurd to me that when a form says type or use blank ink that that does not imply to go ahead and use black ink as well when you sign...

BUT I CAN TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE: you can avoid a possible RFE is you use blue ink and NOT BLACK for all signatures.

As the petitioner on my initial I-129F petition for alien fiancee submission, only one of the signatures was in blue ink. That caused them to send me an RFE because they said the other signatures in black were photocopies, not originals.

I was able to convince them in a required cover letter of explanation and resubmission that they were indeed original signatures in black ink. And they accepted the submission on the second try without changing any of the signatures, but it did get me an RFE and cause me about a 15 day delay in getting my NOA1.

I will always do signatures in blue ink from now on.

At this ROC stage, I think USCIS doesn't care if ink is black or blue, really.

Unless it is blank or with red ink or so, you won't get RFE because of the ink color!

We are already married for more than 2 years, possibility of visa fraud is almost none.

It's very different from K-1 or other petition, I think.

You can follow the I-751 instruction. We used black pen. No RFE!
