BryceAndRebeca got a reaction from Amy and Michael in N400 - October 2022 Filers
I got Naturalized yesterday! The interview was good, the officer was nice and the process was straightforward. He asked me the following questions:

    1. Where is the Statue of Liberty located?
    2.  What happened on Sept 11, 2001?
    3. Name one of the writers of the Federalist Papers.
    4. What is the capital of the State?
    5. How many voting members are in the House of Representatives?
    6. What is one of the powers of the States?

Then he asked me to read: Who can Vote?
    Write: Citizens can vote

After that I was approved! The rest of the interview was regular questions and updating information for USCIS. He asked me if I wanted to do the Oath today, I said yes. He sent the request and exited his office. My Oath was scheduled for 1 pm (same building, different entrance).

I received my Naturalization Certificate, and a packet with other relevant information.

We are very happy, Good luck to everyone else waiting!

BryceAndRebeca reacted to SalishSea in Cousin Marriage on CR-1... Moving to Texas
Not the same at all.  Same sex marriages are legal in all 50 states due to the supreme court ruling.  There has not been anything like that for cousin marriages.

A better argument would be: if cousin marriages are allowed, why not marriages between other close relatives?  Siblings?  Parent/child?

And if you came here to argue about the laws, then you're barking up the wrong tree.  The laws are what they are.  If a person's culture dictates that they can or should marry a first cousin, and their eligibility to immigrate is based on that marriage, then they need to find a place to live where it is legal.  Full stop.

BryceAndRebeca reacted to Dashinka in ROC for Children
Here is what it says in the instructions for the I751.  It seems pretty clear, so depending on the timeline of when the child also received the conditional GC, you either send one package or two.

If that is not what you are asking, then please clarify.

    Good Luck!

If you were granted conditional resident status through marriage to a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, use Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, to file for the removal of those conditions. If you have dependent children who acquired conditional resident status on the same day as you or within 90 days thereafter, then include the names and Alien Registration Numbers (A-Numbers) of these children in Part 5. of Form I-751 in order to request that the conditions on their status be removed as well. If you have dependent children who did not acquire conditional resident status on the same day as you or within 90 days thereafter, or if the conditional resident parent is deceased, then those dependent children must each file Form I-751 separately to have the conditions on their status removed.

LOL, huh?  Do you think the result will be different if she is 16.5 vs 16?  Do you think separately filed petitions exist in a vacuum and that they won't know that a previous petition was denied, and why?

You were rightly denied.  Importing a child bride is a form of trafficking.  Do the respectable thing, and marry here when she is an adult.

why have you waited for 3 years to do all this? you can do all that in an afternoon. utilities are done with a phone call. go in bank and add her on. good grief.

and your tax returns? lordy. didnt you check the box for a SS number when you were filling out visa stuff? you have to amend all that. Whoever filed your taxes is an idiot, you could have applied for an ITIN. you would not have been able to file electronically the first year, but after that you could have (im pretty sure)

my concern, due to all your procrastination, is that being able to prove an ongoing bonafide relationship for the past 3 years she has been out of status. the out of status itself isnt a big issue but when combined with the fact you are waiting to the last minute to prove the relationship, might raise a few eyebrows. Wouldnt have been such a big deal if you had filed for AOS right after getting married, as to some extent its not uncommon to not have a whole bunch at that point. but 3 years after the fact, i dont know how normal that is. how does she drive? how does she run errands/ pay for stuff?

we married dec 24 1018, green card rec nov 7 2019, and at this point my husband is on everything except the house (which is in my name) and one bank account (in his name). other than that, we are together on everything, whether jointly or as authorized users. taxes were married filing separate for tax year 2018 and will be married filing jointly this year. none of this is hard or complicated.

Something is wrong here. When someone is going to get a green card or naturalize in the US and he is in a polygamous marriage, US law requires that he divorce all but one wife. So the fact that you are only separated from your husband (who has another wife there) means he has broken US law, probably by not declaring the marriage. Regardless... none of that is actually your problem.  You apply, you can use your name as it is, if they ask about your marital situation you must be honest about what it is. If polygamy is legal in your country, which I assume it is, it is not a problem for you. Whatever you do, do not lie on any application to US immigration or you could face a permanent ban. If your husband has lied to them that is his problem to deal with, not yours.

A "traditional polygamous situation"?  Us law allows only one spouse.......thus, there could be no adjustment of status for a "second spouse"....

If someone tells you they dont want to have children... THEY DONT WANT TO HAVE CHILDREN. If my husband comes home tonight and says ' hey, lets have a baby' id tell him to shove it! He KNOWS i dont want to have kids (neither does he, so moot point lol)

You sound like a controlling, stone age, me man, you woman kind of guy. That doesnt fly well with strong independent women. On top of that, you dont have the means to support her OR a kid. Another reason for not wanting to have kids.

It is only both of your money if you both agree to it. If not- HERS IS HERS. AND YOURS IS YOURS. well, except you dont have any. If when I was working, I bought 10 Designer handbags and bought more - thats only between ME AND MY BANK. Unless you are supporting her - it is NONE of your business.

And yes, at 45 you SHOULD be helping your parents. My mother is moving in tomorrow. No im not happy about it. but it is what it is until we can get her set up somewhere else. She has NEVER given me money. GROW UP.

Me. and MILLIONS of others. Welcome to the millenium dude. we dont have to be barefoot and pregnant from societal norms anymore.

Dude, youve done got her a visa and a subsequent greencard. Youve made your bed and pretty much cant do jack squat about it.

see above. visa is in hand. Too late for you to realize she meant it when she said she didnt want kids, and that she wants a MAN and HUSBAND and not a man child for her to support.

    Kudos to her.

It’s pretty cliche, but I think more people need to adhere to the idea of marrying someone for who they are, not who you want them to be or see them becoming.

If you think it’s wrong of her to expect you to work with it being hard on your body, your should probably do some looking into how hard pregnancy and childbirth can be on your body. That’s absolutely not something to force on someone who is unwilling. Not to even mention the responsibility of having a child.

I don’t really blame her for not wanting to bring a new person into the world with someone who is willing to just cancel a visa after 2 years of marriage.

I was on your side until I read this comment. You are quite right that there’s no need to get a 30-year mortgage at 45 if you live in a perfectly adequate place, etc.

You are not doing her a favor by bringing her here. I do hate that arrogant attitude from the USCs who seem to think that we foreign spouses should be eternally grateful and indebted to you because you “rescued” us from our home lands and “gifted” us a better life. Ridiculous. She sounds like she is very self-sufficient with her own career. She owes you nothing. If this is a genuine marriage then bringing her here is just as much for your benefit as it is hers.

Its almost as bad as the immigrants that say “I gave up everything to come here for him/her”. No, you did not. You made a life change that you BOTH wanted and so that you could BOTH live with the person you love. You do it for yourself as much as you do it for the other.

Shes probably better off without you if that’s your attitude.

Unfortunately your opportunity to address this has likely expired.

Let me get this straight.   You want her to have children yet can’t work and support yourself, much less children so you want her to be the sole provider for those children, yet you want to dictate to her where and how she has to live.

She is supposed to be grateful to you why?    Is there any regard or consideration to her wishes here or is she expected to cater to your every want just because you “brought her to your parents small house in ‘Merica”?

Not even close.  This girl seems to be quite capable of taking care of herself.
    Colt?  LOL maybe
