You will not make the interview appointment.  The Embassy will make the  interview appointment after you have submitted all of the Packet 3 Documents.

When you receive your notice of the appointment date, ( Most likely by email) that is when you can schedule the medical exam.  She will need to provide the hospital of the  appointment date and also must take a copy of the notice with her to the hospital as proof.    There are only 2 hospitals I believe you can choose from to get this done.  Bangkok Nursing Home or Bumrungrad Hospital.   The medical exam is 2 days.  She will have the exam one day and the results on the second day.    Another thing to keep in mind is that your fiancé will have to be up to date on her  immunizations.  They will do the required immunizations at the hospital for additional costs.    My wife had all of hers done before she even had the exam.   A gonorrhea test is now mandatory as well, so don't be surprised if additional costs are added to cover immunizations if you have not done them already.

You can PM me if you would like and I can give you more information if you like and maybe I can have my wife assist your fiancé with her personal experiences.

Just to expand on the letter.   This is what my wife's notification of interview letter says:

COVID-19 Safety Precautions - To ensure the health and safety of all who enter USCIS offices, you must take the following safety precautions whenarriving for your interview:
    • DO NOT arrive more than 15 minutes prior to your interview time. You will not be permitted entry into the office until 15 minutes before yourinterview.
    • You and anyone permitted to come with you to your interview (as explained in the section, "Who should come with you?" below) must wear a facecovering that covers the mouth and nose.
    • Bring a black or blue ink pen with you to your interview.

Who should come with you? Only the following people may come with you to your interview:
    • If you do not speak English fluently, you should arrange to have an interpreter available by phone. Do not bring an interpreter to theinterview. If you need a Sign Language Interpreter or Certified Deaf Interpreter, call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 as soon aspossible.
    • Your attorney or authorized representative may come with you to the interview, or be available via phone.
    • If you have a disability and have an individual who assists you, that individual may come with you.

    Hope that helps

I would follow this advice.   My wife has her interview tomorrow afternoon and her letter specifically said that because of COVID-19 protocol, the applicant was the one person allowed in the building with only a few exceptions and family wasn't one of them.  Good with with yours.

I agree with the poster that said it not worth it.  It’s very expensive. Although, my wife is from Thailand and moved here to Iowa almost 5 years ago.  She still hates the clothing styles here in the US.  There is also the issue of size.  My wife is very small and she has a hard time finding nice clothing for adult women in her size here.   When my wife moved here because I flew back to the US with her we had 4 large suitcases just for her.  All of my cloths were in a large carryon.  So we got most of her clothes over here but she had nothing for winter when she arrived in November.  To this day she orders her clothes from a website in China because it’s cheap and she gets the size and styles she wants.  It takes a little longer to arrive but it makes her happy.  And of course that’s most important, right guys? 😂. Just my 2 cents.

It isn’t worth it to ship clothes.  The thrift shops in the US will provide clothes more suitable to the climate where she will be living and at affordable prices.

@RevGreen You would be surprised to find out there are more Thai around than you think.    I have found that the Thai communities here in Iowa are rather quiet  and keep to themselves but after you find a few, you will realize they are all over.   When my wife moved here we were interested in finding a Thai community.  It wasn't until we made a trip to the nearest Lao Temple which was about 100 miles away, that we made a few connections.  My wife has lived here for about 18 Months now and has a lot of Thai friends now.  They meet up as a group at least once a Month in someones home and cook Thai food all day.  Its a beautiful thing.  LOL.  You might also want to encourage your fiance to join a Thai facebook group called Visa2USA.  Its a very helpful group that could answer a lot of questions she might have from a Thai perspective.  She could also ask some of the users in there, if they are from the Kentucky Area.

When your status at the NVC changes from TRANSIT to READY, you can send Packet 3 to the embassy.  When you receive Packet 4 the Embassy will schedule the Interview appointment.    You will be able to check the Embassy website to get the date and time of  your appointment.  They are listed by NVC number.

    Hello,

Your fiance will have to get her Certificate of Single Status from the Amphur of her province .   Most likely her home city.   All Thais have a Government ID Card and whatever province is on that card is where she will need to go to get her Certificate.   My wife lived in Bang Bo, but she is originally from Khon Kean.   She had to make a trip back there and visit the Amphur there to get her certificate.   My wife said that all Amphurs are different as far as what they need to issue the certificate.  My wife had to have one family member and one government official vouch for her.   I have heard that Thais can change their Amphur but that in itself can be more of a hassle than just traveling back to their home province to get the certificate.   Hope that helps with your question and good luck.

One other note about the Certificate.  It will be in Thai so she will have to have it Translated in the future.

You can have the  SSC that says "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization"  removed after she receives it if you want. All you have to do is submit your documents for AOS, EAD and AP using your last name once you get your copy of Marriage Certificate.  Since she received her GC you'll just have to resubmit the SSC application to change her last name and to change the status of the current SSC to remove the "Valid for work....".
    Congratulations!!

She can bring her green card to SSA and remove the restriction, but it's not required. I've had the same SS card with that restriction statement for a while, and I plan on changing it after I naturalize. I'm just too lazy. However, this has never caused any issue with my employment.

What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already had a medical examination overseas? If you were admitted as a: A. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e); or B. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen; and C. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then: (1) You are not required to have another medical examination as long as you file your Form I-485 within one year of an overseas medical examination; and (a) The panel physician did not find a class A medical condition during your overseas examination; or (b) The panel physician did find a class A medical condition, you received a waiver of inadmissibility, and you have complied with the terms and conditions of the waiver.

If you feel you will lose your job soon and you are in the middle of the K-1 Process you can use assets or you could choose to find a Co-Sponsor on your I134.  Those are some alternatives.    Good Luck

The Police Clearance will already be translated so no need to do so.   If I recall, there wasn't much that needed to be translated for my wife.  She is full Thai and I think her birth certificate and Single Status document was the only thing we need to translate.   We did all of our translation in BKK so I am not sure about the Chiang Mai area.  There are many around the U.S Embassy area.  Some are more expensive than others.  Just make sure they are certified to do the translation.

    Hello!

I can help you with some of your questions by what my wife experienced during the K-1 Process.

Fist, you can have your vaccination done just about anywhere you choose. I would try to find a place that knows what you need to get though the K-1 process and required by the U.S.. There is some that are vaccinations required just to complete the K-1 and later on the rest can be done here in the U.S, BUT I would highly recommend that you get ALL of your vaccinations done in Thailand just because its so much cheaper.   This the options that my wife and I chose to do.

The police clearance. There seems to be no consistency with this process.  I have read what others have experienced and everyone is a little bit different.  Here is what I can tell you about my wife's experience.  We were both in BKK the day that she went to the Police station.  I waited outside but this is what she told me happened.   When she arrived, she was told to get into line and wait to been seen by several different stations.   While she was waiting in line, one police officer approached her and asked if she would like to do the "express" option.  She asked how much the "express" option was.  He told her 1000 baht.   She agreed and was placed at the front of the line and finished in about 20 minutes.   When she finished she was told that they would mail the document to her within the week.   I wasn't very optimistic when she told me what they offered but sure enough, within 3 days she had received it in the mail.    So to answer your question, yes, you will have to go to BKK to get the police clearance but they will mail it back to your home address in Chiang Mai.  If they offer you the "express" method, that is entirely up to you. I would say it depends on how fast you need it.  Also keep in mind that it is only good for 90 days, so don't get it too soon. You don't want to have to go back to BKK again.

Lastly, here is some great reading material that might help you along as well.  This is directly from the embassy website.  https://th.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/packets/

Hope you found this helpful and if there is anything else I can help with, please feel free to ask.   Good Luck.

    Hello...

it was never my intention to cast aspersions on the validity of OP's relationship. I think is is inappropriate for anyone on this forum to pass any sort of judgment. The ways of love are unpredictable and sometimes impossible to understand, and only the heart knows what the heart wants. I simply wanted to point out that the story as related may raise barriers difficult if not impossible to overcome during the adjudication and interview processes.

You are the OP (Original Poster).   Honestly, don't listen to much of what some of these people are assuming.  They really don't know what is going on in your life and really couldn't possibly tell from what you have already written.   Just know that your only options are 1. Tourist Visa, which is extremely difficult but not impossible, and it would be all on her to obtain!  There is nothing you can do or say to help make this happen.  2. K-1 Visa.  This means you are already engaged and plan to marry here in the US within 90 day of her arrival. This can ultimately be a faster process in most cases.  3. CR-1 Visa.  This means that you have already married her and request petition for her to join you in the US.  The K-1 Visa is a little faster and doesn't cost as much up front.  If you really want to be together sooner, then this is a good option.  The CR-1 take a lot longer and cost a little bit more money up front.  The great thing about this method is that when she arrives in country she will already have her green card and will be able to work, drive etc.   So those are the only options if you wish to have your SO be with you in the US.

You can check this link -- http://www.path2usa.com/countries-that-offer-a-visa-waiver-for-us-green-card-holders -- it says which countries you can visit while having a green card. Not until she becomes a US Citizen and has the American passport can she start travelling the same places a USC can go to.

    Hello!
Noom & I were married on Friday morning, November 18th. It was the happiest day of my life.
Our wedding was so wonderful. We were married in a lovely old house surrounded by the closest friends and family who gathered to witness the Christian religious ceremony and to enjoy a champagne lunch afterwards. Floral arrangements of white roses and white hydrangeas along with violin & guitar music helped to create a sweet and romantic atmosphere. And our wedding cake was delicious...chocolate cake with chocolate icing!
Our priest sent an email later in the day saying he has officiated at a lot of weddings in his life time but none was sweeter, more loving, and more sincere than ours.
My family, friends, and co-workers have accepted Noom with open hearts and have found him to be as sweet, charming, and adorable as I do.
Noom has adjusted so well to life in America. He's studying English, eating well (yes, he likes farang food), cooking Thai food, and learning his way around. He's very happy and hasn't been homesick at all.
All that waiting has been so worth it! And now for adjustment of status.
    All the best,
    David & Noom
