I have a question about the certificate. Where does my fiancée get this certificate? I'm assuming she puts in a request in Bangkok somewhere? Any help would be great, thank you!

Hello,

Your fiance will have to get her Certificate of Single Status from the Amphur of her province .   Most likely her home city.   All Thais have a Government ID Card and whatever province is on that card is where she will need to go to get her Certificate.   My wife lived in Bang Bo, but she is originally from Khon Kean.   She had to make a trip back there and visit the Amphur there to get her certificate.   My wife said that all Amphurs are different as far as what they need to issue the certificate.  My wife had to have one family member and one government official vouch for her.   I have heard that Thais can change their Amphur but that in itself can be more of a hassle than just traveling back to their home province to get the certificate.   Hope that helps with your question and good luck.

One other note about the Certificate.  It will be in Thai so she will have to have it Translated in the future.

Confirming that my now-wife did indeed need to have her single certificate translated for it to be accepted at the US Embassy. (For some reason, I thought it didn't need to be translated.)

Also, the trek back to your partner's amphur (อำเภอ) can be a doozy if she has moved from her hometown. You'll need to get the single certificate at the location where her home registry document was originally registered, also known in Thai as tabien baan (ทะเบียนบ้าน). It's typically blue but the color may vary.

Hi Narakthisud:

Is tabien baan (ทะเบียนบ้าน) the name of the Home Registry Document or the name of the Single Certificate?  My finance is traveling to Isan from southern Thailand to obtain her birth certificate.  We would like to do this only once.  Do you know the name of the single certificate in Thai and the Thai alphabet?

Any thing else she should get while there?

Thanks

You're correct: the tabien baan is the home registry. The single certificate is called bairak'rong sod (ใบรับรองโสด) in Thai. My wife says your partner should be good with her Thai ID and won't need her tabien baan. (I argue it couldn't hurt to bring it but my wife is a Thai person so she is the expert!) My wife says the single certificate and birth certificate are all you need to get at the amphur in terms of documents needed for a K1 or CR-1 visa. Best of luck to you both! We're sitting down to a lovely lunch of larb kai right now.

Thanks for the quick reply!  Much appreciated.  Patti hates flying by herself so getting everything in one trip will level the stress.  Thanks again!!

My fiance is saying that because she was married before and hasn't changed her last name back to her maiden name (she has divorce papers from Thai court and US court showing divorce) they will not issue her a single certificate.  has anyone had this issue before?

Does anyone know who I can contact about this. The district office is telling her that.  I talked to the district authorities. To get a certificate of status from the district, the officer replied that. Please change the extension use the old madien name to use the old name. District Officers Make the release of a single status certificate for me.  Would the office of foreign affairs help?
