I think that entry to the US should be reserved for those that follow the laws , all the laws not just the ones that are easy, I think there should be no immigration reform, all illegals should be deported with a lifetime ban, no forgiveness of overstay, no waivers for criminals( which would automatically include illegals) . I also think that welfare should be done away with and there should be no minimum wage let supply and demand control wages. Also end bankruptcy and make debtors pay off the debt they incurred. Teach only English in schools and only issue high school diplomas to those that can pass a standardized test in English, math and science. There probably isn't one bleeding heart on here that agrees but I feel that is why the US is turning into a dump of lazy fools with their hands out for a free ride.

Actually, for context, the document is part of the CUNY site for Citizenship Application Assistance that is provided by the university for individuals to apply if they qualify.  Nothing in the document mentions anything about undocumented immigrants at all, though the rights technically remain the same.

The root site for the document is http://www1.cuny.edu/sites/citizenship-now/
The chapter is from this document:  http://www1.cuny.edu/sites/citizenship-now/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/media-assets/2017-Call-In-Training-Manual.pdf

I've not read through the entire document, but it does appear to be a reasonably good guide for immigration, along with pointers to where to turn if you have concerns and/or further questions.

For those in the NY Metro area, of note is the fact that they (CUNY) also offers free immigration assistance.

Detestable? Not in my mind, but rather a good resource to have for those who find themselves in need of some extra assistance...

Knowing one's rights in order to not be taken advantage of by ICE or any law enforcement agency is not evasion.

No, thats NOT what she said. She didn't suggest opening the borders to "persons entering illegally".
Typical Trump tactic here is to mesh quotes with his twisted thought pattern to come up with an "idea"
that has the logical weight of 4th grade banter.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I had my N400 interview today at Federal Plaza. I definitely over prepared. My application was submitted in Jan 2021 and I didn't get an interview notice until exactly 2 years after the initial submission (and after contacting the USCIS ombudsman's office for help moving my case along). The agent was pleasant and quick. Questions on the civics portion included: name of the current president, ocean on the east coast, role of the judicial branch, how many justices are on the Supreme Court,) reading/ writing portion was about how many senators we have / we have 100 (one hundred) senators. I was informed my application had been approved on the spot and a notice of oath would be mailed. my status changed twice today (from interview was scheduled to recommendation of approval to oath will be scheduled). I am near graduation. I don't post here much, but have used this forum in moments of anxiety and frustration. I thought it'd be fair to make a small contribution by sharing my experience as I know these stores help comfort and remind us that one, eventually, our time comes - even if it takes a while. Good luck to all.

I think what USCIS probably most prefers these days is a big uniform stack of loose, single-sided, letter size paper that they can just plop down on a big industrial sized scanner and push the scan button one time without anything jamming up their document feeder or needing disassembled.by hand.

    My two cents:
    1) The conspiracy theorist in me tells me they are forcing people to apply for N400 (I know some don't want to) ,N400's are taking as short as two months now and it has been the case that immigrants are more likely to vote Democrat.
    2) Many goverment decisions are pointless in the sense that they apply AFTER the fact and NOT BEFORE. I751's take long? Increase the time to 36 months where in reality it's possible that I751 will actually start to get shorter (covid backlog dying down, N400's taking waaaaay shorter and the need to adjust I751 ,.....) but the hand wave approach is to increase the time for now.

As for the fraud, I think the whole point of I751 is to make fraud harder and not prevent it. People are not going to share bank accounts,go to trips  and file tax returns if they don't trust each other on a spouse level and some love (At least is involved). I don't think it takes more than a few days to actually look through someones file and just tick the check boxes.

Second time: the stamp is a yearly stamp that keeps green card active while it's out of date while an i751 is pending. She got the stamp at the uscis office like everyone else does. Where as in location? Dallas, Texas. She has received this stamp for some years now while waiting on the i751.

I am starting a drinking game, I get a shot for everyone you ask the same question that I answered and as a bonus if you are angry that you didn't know I already answered it I am getting 10 shots.

I agree with you 100%, there is a lot of bad advice from certain regulars here, who are rude and condescending. It’s not even worth going into detail with them, as they are stuck in their ways.

You can AOS from a B2 by seeking asylum, that’s one way. Ukrainians, Russians are all seeking asylum and I know several doing this. VJ will tell you that you’re a vile evil person, but they’re just ignorant.

I had my interview same day as you, at the same office, (albeit it on the 8th floor at the Brooklyn office). I've been to Federal Plaza several times now and it's always been super quiet, so I was shocked to see what a s***show it was outside at 8am when we arrived. Large crowd outside, and some of the guards were actually getting a bit physical and shoving people around. Managed to get myself and my wife inside through security and eventually got to the waiting room on the 8th floor. Like you, they only wanted to interview me despite having a pending I-751, but they did allow my wife to wait in the waiting room for me at least.

My officer was friendly and not at all cranky, but basically I had the same experience as you - I passed all the N-400 tests but was told that the I-751 had to be reviewed over the next few days (she called it 'getting waived') before the N-400 could be approved, and that I should expect to hear about an oath ceremony at some point soon (I assuming this will be weeks though).

My I-751 file was on her desk throughout the interview too, but she didn't look at it at all, and I wasn't asked to provide any evidence whatsoever from either my I-751 or N-400 applications other than showing her my Green Card. Honestly, I sat longer in the waiting room than I was in the interview room for. I'm looking at this positively in that the officer was so brief, casual and honestly, quite ambivalent about the whole thing because it's a pretty straightforward case and there's nothing much to worry about. I'll still be glad when my case status updates online though!

I'll be glad to be done with USCIS. I don't know if this is a New York thing, but every encounter with them seems to involved a cranky, angry, short tempered individual!

That's great news on your update, congratulations! I'll keep an eye on my status, I was expecting it to take some time in the classic USCIS fashion, but hopefully I'll get an update soon as well. Maybe I'll even see you at the same oath ceremony! 🤣

So, my interview was this morning at the Brooklyn office. My wife came with me, they allowed her into the building but kept her in the waiting room as the officer didn’t want to speak with her.

I did the N-400 interview alone, passed all tests answered a few very basic questions about my name, DOB, job, travel history. I was then told that as the I-751 was being waived I couldn’t be formally approved on the spot and that they needed to do some work in my case behind the scenes to close it all out. They said I shouldn’t worry as I should expect to hear from USCUS in a few days to be scheduled for an oath ceremony.

I spent ages assembling all our documents and the officer didn’t ask to see anything at all other than my Green Card. It actually took longer to get into the building that it did to be interviewed! Feels very strange to think that this process is very nearly over.
