None of this matters. What your mother in law is doing is considered work, taking a job from someone else. It's illegal, it doesn't matter how much money you've spent on her visit.

If she doesn't have insurance it's probably best to go to her home country for it where it will be way way less expensive. Insurance for elderly alien parents is very difficult -often impossibe- to procure at reasonable prices, especially if she doesn't qualify to be added now when she needs the insurance. In my state you'd  have to wait for open enrollment if you're adding her to your insurance (if that is possible!).

Plus, while she's in her home country she can wrap up all those permanent ties she has there that convinced the US to allow her to enter on a tourist visa.

We were advised to and did. Worked out for us! We did have to move quickly to get evidence right after getting married. I think we waited 3 weeks though to have the marriage certificate. (Lease, will, powers of attorney, pictures, bank statements etc etc)

OP, your list looks easily approvable! Best of luck.

I'm curious too..this RFE is for more evidence. Did you submit all of these things already for the initial application and they are asking for more or is it that you didn't submit much evidence with the initial application?

I souldn't bother with the one-pager. You probably have enough already but if you're concerned one simple thing you could add would be to draw up a will and a durable financial and/or medical power of attorney that naming the other person in case something happens to one of you. There are some forms online for free - just fill out one from your state, print and have notarized.

I’d suggest first actually applying and getting approved for ESTA before asking all the questions. It takes a few minutes, yes?

I feel like everyone is SO close but it feels like forever. These past few days without an update felt like I was holding my breath. I really wish they were more transparent about this process so you know what and when to expect it. Instead of this “Hey COULD BE TODAY! Or in 2 months idk, hope your wedding plans are going great”.

Have you done the research?  Your parents will not be able to work or leave the US for as many as 8 months.  They won't get a Green Card for a year or two.  If they are 65, they won't qualify for medicare for 5 years. I am always surprised that people who come to the US just for a visit can suddenly decide to stay and live in the US.  Good luck.

    I won't squeal on you.
Actually, we used to have neighbors from the DR, and the wife went back there specifically for cosmetic surgery.  That's a meaningful endorsement.

If you want to be in the DR there are EXCELLENT doctors in the Dominican Republic that are fluent in English. Way less expensive than the US, too but of the same quality. Ask for a private clinic. Your fiancé should know where to look.

Unbelievable they keep moving the end date! When we started the estimate was 6-8.5 months. Now 14 months. We are very close now but I’m still so frustrated with the process. No public company or business would survive with this level of service.

Are you a USC and is she your biological daughter? If so she qualifies for citizenship through you. You can register her birth and get her a passport without having to wait on NOA2. Then fly to get her and bring her to your home. In fact, I suspect that a biological daughter DOESN'T qualify for a K2..but you'd have to check with someone else on the details for that as I'm not sure.

Alternatively you can have doctors in her current location check her out. I think there are some good private ones especially. Imho (and having dealt with ear issues a lot though I'm NOT a doctor!) if it's not a sudden-onset situation a few months may not matter. It has gone this long it is unlikely to warrant an expedite as there is medical care in Togo. The potential expedite could take longer to process than the rest of the k1 visa process.  We're all ALMOST there, fingers crossed!

Nope, nothing yet. The "estimate" has moved to the end of September. The latest approvals i have seen come through are at around the 430 day mark, so that would take us to the end of September. I will happily take that,  but it seems for every 2 steps closer you get you move one step back.

Daisy.Chain got a reaction from Redro in We just applied for K-1, are we really looking at 26 months?
While I'd like to think 26 months was click bait, I'm not so sure. It's better to be realistic.
My K1 from noa1 to noa2 was approved in 14 days back in 2014. The couple I'm close to was projected by USCIS at 8-9 months and they are nearly to 14 months without their noa2.

"The USCIS wouldn't let it wait that long" argument holds no water imho when you consider how long some of the family-based cases are. No one can knows what USCIS would do
