PickleChips got a reaction from Colette in Spouse's employer is refusing to give time off for ROC/N400 interview
Update: My spouse ended up talking his employer into letting him have the morning off but had to go back in the afternoon, which was all we wanted in the first place. I don't know what changed his mind, maybe some conscience kicked in, but thank goodness because it was a combined ROC/N400 interview! I was approved and am just waiting on my oath ceremony.

Curious, you mentioned having a FL driver's licence... how did you obtain that without permanent residence?

PickleChips got a reaction from omega6 in Fiance deployed during process
My then-fiance, now husband, was given year long deployment orders the day we were going to send in our package. What we ended up doing was delaying the process so that my visa was approved and in hand by the time he returned. I didn't want to be uprooted and spend the first year of our marriage in a foreign country by myself and trust me, if you have the choice to spend his deployment surrounded by family and friends in your home, I would suggest doing it.
    Just my two cents worth.

No FFL needed! Thank goodness because they charge for their services.

I did. It was no issue. You have to apply for the permit beforehand and it took a while to get approved so I started the process early.
    Here is the link: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/210/~/requirements-for-importing-new-or-antique-firearms%2Fammunition
The form is available from that page.
As far as at the border, I declared my firearms, gave them the approved permits and they inspected my firearms to ensure they matched what I was claiming. Make sure to have them accessible at the border (I loaded my gun safe last into my U-Haul so the agents could get at it easily).

I lived in Vancouver too and crossed at several of the borders. Never had a problem after the NOA2. Some people have said it shows up on their screen but they certainly didn't act like they knew anything. I always brought my ties of course.

Because it's not all "politics, nation-wide violence, police brutality". It's an amazingly beautiful country with vastly different landscapes and cultures, opportunities galore to make money if you work for it, some of the friendliest and most welcoming people I have ever met, first rate healthcare and literally safer than some places I've been in Canada. You can see the glass as half full or half empty...
People say that Americans are arrogant and think their country is the best but I have seen plenty of that attitude in Canada, albeit more subtly. We tend to think what we have grown up with it is the best so people don't understand.
Also, you can just move back if it's not what you imagined so win-win.

You can bring all of it. I used a U-haul and had an itemized list of boxes and their approximate contents, they didn't look at any of it. You are coming on a K1 so you are obviously immigrating, they won't question you like when you are entering for a visit. I believe you have up to 10 years to import your personal belongings as well so no rush

PickleChips got a reaction from thatangela in Revenue Canada - Are you still waiting, too?
I sent mine in super late due to not receiving my T4 until early May (we moved and it got sent to the old address. Twice. Grr.) Had H&R do it and send it away mid May. Status showed as received for about 2 months, then in process for a month or so more and just the other day shows as processed and that my NOA will be available next week. They do say on the website that it takes 4-6 weeks to process paper returns. Hopefully they will get to yours soon!

Vancouver has customs anyways, you will be processed before you actually leave the country then free to transfer flights once you get there.

You do nothing right now. NVC will forward your case to Montreal and Montreal will send you packet 3 (or you can download packet 3 when the case tracker says ready). NVC is just a stopover for K1s before they forward it to the appropriate embassy.

I miss Cheemo perogies. I have only been able to find Mrs T's so far and I don't really like them. Plus, when I ask at the store if they have perogies, the clerk looks at me like I have a second head on my shoulders; I haven't found anyone who even knows what they are.

I believe it is 100% over poverty line for military, not %125. National Guard qualifies.
