Don't quit your job before you actually move here. Before my hubby moved here and he was just visiting he got a hard time from the CBP agent and pulled into secondary because he was unemployed for a short period during one of his visits. The CBP officer came out to talk to me giving me a hard time. And I said listen we plan to do it the correct way no sense doing it the wrong way and being paranoid. He was taken aback a bit but smiled and said thats the right answer he will be right down.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I don't believe MN law enforcement can ask about residency status. This happened on a light rail train a couple years back and there was a huge uproar and the officer was fired.

    From the article:
Minneapolis is not a “sanctuary city” but since 2003 has had an ordinance in the books preventing police officers from asking about a person’s immigration status unless it’s relevant to a crime.

Quick question. I just heard that starting in 2021 a US citizen will need a visa for traveling to European countries. I know the UK is not Europe but for right now they are still part of the EU. My question is will a US citizen need the visa to travel to UK starting in 2021? Or is UK not effected?

I would highly recommend becoming a US citizen. But it is ultimately a personal choice.

    1. Protection from deportation (the exception is if you lied or misrepresented yourself on your N400).
    2. You can vote.
    3..US passport has strong benefits.
    4. As far as I know you no longer have to update your address with uscis everytime you move. (if I'm wrong someone please correct me).
    5. Some US jobs you can get only with citizenship.
    6. If you fall into a bad situation and need financial assistance you will be eligible and won't have to worry about the public charge penalty.
    7. Protection from ever-changing immigration laws. We know not what will happen in the future. But if anti immigration laws get passed it could effect LPRs who come up for GC renewel.
    8. A fishing license is cheaper for a citizen VS LPR. 😛

I had combo interview on Feb 20th and i went by myself.... i passed both interviews and officer said you will not get your 10 years green card since we will put you in for oath. same day my N-400 status changed to  i am in line for oath from interview attend. ... after week i got my 10 years green card in mail and still I-751 status says Case was received. Hope that helps!

Right. The stamp is merely proof of his Legal Permanent Resident status. Even with an expired stamp he is still an LPR, he just can't re-enter the country.

As LMW said, small clerical errors cannot lead to de-naturalization. Even forgetting to mention a ticket, for instance, doesn't lead to de-naturalization, as it has no substantial effect on the final outcome of your case. It's doing things such as lying about your identity for instance, or refusing to testify before congress etc... which typically leads to that.

Only if he plans to leave the country, which should be avoided if possible at this stage in the game.

I don't think his work can inquire about that. The social security number/card would be used in the government's eVerify system to confirm work eligibility.

According to US Passport Form (included in your packet at Oath Ceremony), you need proof of US Citizenship and Government Issued ID (eg MN Drivers license). That's it.

So yesterday was our combo interview ROC/N400.      We parked in the Marquette Plaza, it was extremely full. We found one vacant spot which we swiftly took. Went up to 7th floor and checked in. While waiting in lobby we went through our civics test flashcards one more time. His numb er was c alled, we didnt hear it, the IO ended up coming out and collecting him. He was a tall african american with a warm smile. So he took him in and I stayed in the wai ting room so everything else I am about to say is from what my hubby told me.      He asked him "Is your wife here too?" he said "yes shes in the waiting room".     They then sat down and went through the application. Then did the civics questions. He got the first 6 right so then they stopped there since he passed already. He then recited a sentence in english and wrote a sentence in english. He misspelled a word by accident but the IO said that was alright.     Then they went onto the I-751. He asked what date did you get married? And what dates did you come and visit prior to K1 fiance visa? My husband is really bad with remembering dates and was honest and said he didnt remember but that the dates were in the binder he brought in. So he looked them up and told him. The IO didnt seem bothered that he didnt know them off the top of his head. Asked when we met and how we met. He said we met on a onl ine message board. The IO asked what was the name of it. But he didnt remember and (I dont remember either to be honest, the message board was shut down shortly after we met).     The IO was satisfied with everything and said I am recommending you for approval for I-751 and N400. He also said he couldnt pro perly approve the N400 until 3 days from now because he has to approve the I-751 in the system first. He then handed him two papers one saying he had been reccomended for approval for I-751 and second for N400 saying A decision cannot be made at this time.  Surprisingly enough he never called me back to interview me. I was expecting it.  So that was our day.

Like 18 months, so wouldn't be eligible yet because that much time away isn't counted toward  the years of eligibility.

Is your husband even close to being out of the US half of his three years? Would two days make a difference? It's an insignificant question for your husband. Had you made a two year error in dates then it could be a problem for not yet eligible.

I had my interview yesterday afternoon. I arrived about 1:50pm and my appoint was scheduled for 2:15pm. I parked in the underground parking directly inside 250 Marquette Building. Those that are looking for parking, you must enter on 3rd ST, 3rd ST is a one-way. There is another parking entrance on Marquette but that is probably for contract parking only, there is no public parking through that entrance and there is a sign that posts, you must enter from 3rd ST for public parking. Parking directly underground cost $18 for roughly 1.5 hours. If you have a lot of time you can find cheaper parking else where and walk but I was a bit late than I'd like and I didn't want to deal with the cold and snow so I was ok with paying $18.

Check in was very smooth. If you are there for an interview, try to sit closer to where the north side so you can hear when your number is called. The system is not that loud so you can easily miss your number if you sit too far. Plus, they do not go in order so pay attention! My appt was for 2:15pm and I got called about 2:40pm. The officer who interviewed me was very nice, we small talked while walking to her office about the weather. Once we got to her office I pulled the chair and I guess I must have missed this completed but I didn't realize I should remaining standing. She notion that I should remaining standing and had me take oath that everything I am going to say is the truth, etc... So - do not sit yet! Remain standing until you are told to do so. I must have missed the memo on this one!

She looked at my green card and mentioned it was very old. It is very old, I was a child in the photo but my green card was issued before the newer cards so it did not have an expiration date and I never got around to renewing it. Yes, I got by with it for this long! A little crazy I know! Then she went over the application, took about 7 mins. I had a correction I had to make. I forgot I got a traffic ticket in 2010 so brought the citation and proof that I paid for it. She mentioned that I didn't need to include it since it was less than $500 but she took the information and updated my application.

Then she made me read a sentence that popped up on the ipad screen infront of me. And then she made me write down what she said with the little pen onto the ipad screen. Then she asked me the civics questions and stopped after 6 and said I passed. Overall, it was very smooth. She was very friendly and reminded me a lot of a teacher. She told me they are scheduling oath and there is a big one at the beginning of April so I might be in that one but she's not sure but I will need to wait for my letter. We left her office and talked a bit more about the weather and she walked me out, I exited the back hall door and back to the lobby elevators.

Overall, it went well. Everyone was super friendly and it was easy to find and check in. I'm so glad this is almost over.

Good luck to everyone still waiting! You'll get there!
