Got to wait until after the election in November when the GOP has a majority. Then it has a great chance of going forward. -

Yeah, but would I want to live in AL, AR, or GA?? LOl, NO. Wife's daughter and family moved to Broward county last year (Parkland) and it looks like their property taxes are about double. Wouldn't want to live on that coast anyway. -

I'll have to say the property taxes here in FL are not bad, especially compared to some of those northern states that also have income taxes. -
Are you in training for the July 4th Coney Island hot dog eating contest? That would be way cool to see you try that.

Good news for me is that I don't need, nor do I want to buy, a new car right now. I just see a lot of people jumping from their almost new $35K car into a $65k+ Tesla so they can save a thousand or two per year on gas. Of course there is the Chevy Bolt that can now be had for under 30k, but... -

Yep. I was just playfully pondering an EV and running the numbers. Daughter is picking up her new Tesla Y today. Girl that works for me has two Teslas in her family. Stepdaughter has one on order. Other friends have them on order. Won't be giving up my newish SUV, but the wife has a smaller luxury car we use daily for 10,000 mi/year. It gets about 28 mpg for our daily use. Running the numbers @ $5 and $6 per gallon of gas for a $50k-$65k Tesla just doesn't make sense. If I were to buy a new car, it would be a loaded top of the line Camry hybrid that gets better than 45 mpg, and still have a bundle of money left over to buy gas. Just my opinion. But it seems Camry Hybrids are not currently available in my area. No problem. I can wait. -
Oh hooray. Yesterday was the first day of hurricane season, and tomorrow we are expecting our first tropical storm hit. Looks like it will mostly be a rain event with 7 or 8 inches Friday and Saturday. Thankfully two weeks ago we checked and ran the generators and chainsaws. Last weekend we were at the house in the Keys and prior to leaving secured everything as we always do this time of year. Bring it on

Hope for the Vaccine Injured
Neonred replied to TBoneTX's topic in Current Events and Hot Social Topics
Was talking about this with my son ( a PA in emergency at a local hospital) and his wife (an ER nurse) just the other day. All of us were vaccinated because of our jobs. None of us opted for the booster. We have all seen some distressing cases of severe and long lasting issues following vaccination and especially boosting. I have not had any adverse effects, but honestly with some of the folks I have seen with life changing reactions it is doubtful I would have taken the vaccine if I had known, My typically Russian wife that does not trust anything to do with the government was the only one in our family that didn't take the vaccine. -

Don't be too confused. Remember that NB is from Georgia, and, well, that accent seems to be coming through. -
Both my kids were jaundice. First one stayed in the hospital, but I don't remember how long. Talked with my friends in med school and learned about putting them near a bright window. When the second was born and jaundice we took him home and did the window trick. It worked.

I remember when my daughter was born (Sept of 1985...LOL) after 36 hours of labor. I was there for the first 30 plus hours and was dead tired. Nurse sent me home saying I needed to get some sleep and it was still going to be a while. I walked home as we only lived 2 blocks from the hospital and picked up the Sunday paper along the way. Fell asleep face down on the floor reading the paper and woke up with the phone ringing. It was the nurse telling me to get here quick as we were having a baby. Made my way quickly to the hospital only to wait some more as the doctor wasn't ready. The little one was jaundice and had to spend a few extra days in the hospital, but after 2 days they sent my ex-wife home. She was feeling very good and had been walking the floor in the hospital. She was feeling so good and decided she would walk home. Nurse said NO ONE has ever walked home from the hospital after giving birth. We explained we only lived 2 blocks away. (Medical school, dental school, a couple of hospitals, and med-dent housing are all gathered close together in downtown Louisville) Looking back it was a poor decision. Started out OK but after the first block things started to go down hill. Slower and slower. By the time we got home the ex-wife said that it felt like her insides were dropping out... When the second one was born, we used the car to go the 2 blocks.

You are going to find that senators have no control over the embassies.

Have not been very interested in buying an EV. I've had a Toyota Camry hybrid in the past and that's the way I would probably go in the future (hybrid). Got a friend with a Tesla 3 and wife and I went on a trip with him and his wife across the state. Did not like that car at all. My daughter ordered a model Y last November and hopes to have it in the next month or so. I had toyed with the idea of putting down a $250 deposit on a Fisker Ocean but my wife let me know I was NOT going to be so foolish (that's the mild version).
