Canerican reacted to JFH in Canadian starting IR-1 process with US dual-citizen
We also did the whole lot ourselves. I’ll be filing for citizenship in a few months and flying solo with that paperwork too.

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to read as much as you can before starting. Read the instructions on the forms multiple times. Read these forums. Read the guides on this site. If you still have questions, just ask them here. I have lost count of the number of threads I’ve seen here where it’s obvious that the poster hasn’t read the form instructions at all (asking how much the fees are, where to mail the forms, who to make the check payable to, and so on). Too many people get over excited about applying to bring their loved one here (I get that, I remember the excitement of starting the process) but it’s something you need to get right  first time. Most of the RFEs we see here are the result of not reading the instructions.

The process is not difficult. It’s not the NASA selection process for a space mission. You will not be asked a single question to which you don’t already know the answer, assuming the relationship is genuine. But you will be asked the same question multiple times and it is a long and tedious process. Read as much as you can to understand how the process works, read through the forms and check them again after completion to ensure you haven’t missed a question. Answer each question exactly what is asked. Don’t try and second-guess why the question is asked or try to interpret a different meaning - take every thing at face value. Don’t read anything into anything.

There is only one right answer to each question - the truthful answer.

Did everything myself from I-130 to ROC.  Have zero interest in citizenship at this time so I haven't completed that step.  No RFE, checklists or anything else that caused a delay, beyond my husband not getting documents to me quickly enough.
We did the CR1 process and I visited every couple of months.  No issues entering as my stays were not long (10 days tops) and I had a return ticket.  I brought proof of my ties to Canada, but was never asked for them.

Canerican got a reaction from Tett in CEAC Status= ISSUED but no notification for pp,pick up.
As someone recently posted in a forum, “This journey is not a sprint, it is a marathon.” If you don’t already have patience this process will give you patience. I was not aware of the CEAC website so from my Consulate approval to visa in hand was 11 days. Be patient and wait for that notification, you are almost there.

Canerican got a reaction from SalishSea in New to ALL of this!
So here is what I have gathered, US Citizen would not need an eTA, but a UK Citizen would need an eTA to enter Canada.  See website here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta.html. You can marry in Canada on a visitor visa according thi province of Ontario Settlement website: https://settlement.org/ontario/daily-life/life-events/marriage/can-i-get-married-in-canada-on-a-visitor-visa/. You would have to meet the requirements though of whichever province in which you marry.

As other have stated if you do not have a complex case then you do not need a lawyer. I could not agree with them more. I am originally from Ontario, Canada and my now wife of 6 years and I completed this process without a lawyer all the way from the K-1 petition through the consulate stage to me immigrating and adjusting status, then completing removal of conditions to citizenship. 7 year and 4 month process all without a lawyer. It may be stressful but it is worth it in the end. I owe a lot of credit to the veterans that helped me with every single question I had.

Congratulations!!!! Now you will enter the USA once you receive the visa and then marry within 90 days. If you do not marry within 2 weeks of arriving you can attempt to get a social security card at the local office. If you do not get a SSN before marrying you will have to wait till you receive your I-765 or green card. Once you enter the USA and marry within the 90 days you will do the following:

File I-485 (Adjustment of Status), I-765 (Employment Authorization), and I-131 (Advanced Parole). I-131 and I-765 do not have a fee if filed with I-485. Also I-765 is for so that you can work and I-131 is in case you need to travel before getting your green card. After that you have the waiting game. Take up a hobby, have date nights and enjoy time together.

She needs to prove domicile at interview.  You need more than "oh we can live here" like a lease or rental agreement, driver's license, proof of a job with pay stubs, not just employer offer letter.  Montreal is pretty strict on this.
Yes you can interview in Montreal provided you are still legally present and not a tourist.  (aka you have a work visa, PR status, etc..)

Also concerning the lawyer subject. I immigrated on a K-1, adjusted status to permanent resident, removed my conditions on my green card, and applied for us citizenship. Never once did I need a lawyer. Did it all on my own with the help of my now wife and this wonderful VJ community. Was it stressful? Yes, but I did it and any time I had a question I came to VJ to ask.

Your mother is only allowed to stay for the period that CBP gave her when crossing into the USA. If your mom would like to get s green card and immigrate she needs to apply for a EB-4 visa fourth preference. Please look at this website: https://www.uscis.gov/working-united-states/temporary-workers/r-1-temporary-religious-workers/r-1-temporary-nonimmigrant-religious-working

That’s what the green card allows you to do, yes. I suggest she read the info leaflet that came with the green card, and the more in-depth information online, on the “welcome to the USA” site that details rights and responsibilities of a green card holder. It includes information about traveling and many other factors.
