Has anybody used any of the apps available to help prepare for the exam/interview? We haven't downloaded any yet but I thought I'd check and see if anyone had recommendations, preferably free ones but we're open to all.

I used the official govt list of questions and answers. Some questions have several correct answers.. choose one only.. write the question  on one side of an index card, and the answer on the other side. Practice asking the questions and then  giving the answer. Its helpful to say the question out loud  and then the answer as this trains  the memory.. when you are asked the question your memory will link the  answer to that question

The interviewing officer will ask the questions using the wording on the USCIS list .. And you will give the answer verbally. Practice the format and well as content of the test

:P

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks for bringing up this question.

It's indeed very helpful.

Thanks so much for this practicing method. I will go for it.

I actually uploaded PDF with official list of questions to ChatGPT and described rules of the civics exam. Then used voice chat feature to simulate this and answer questions as if I spoke to USCIS adjudicator.

Can you please inbox me the link to go through this?

Will really appreciate that.

Thanks.

:P

Today is 2025.

Can we please have the update version of those questions and answers to reflect the current USCIS practices?

I used the original uscis pdf and quizlet to create my own flash cards with the specific answers needed for my state.

I read the question aloud and answered it to simulate the interaction.

Your partner could do the same, mine was annoying as hell since they wanted to more and asked follow up questions and i just wanted to pass the exam. Honestly by now i barely remember any of the answers :) Would have loved to go to a history class to learn more, but who has time to do that.

ChatGPT/Claude etc might be an interesting solution too. I would verify what it generates first to make sure it is correct. These LLMs can be very confident while they are completely wrong and if you don't know for sure it will convince that it is right :)))

Jokes aside, I used "US Citizenship Test 2025 Plus" from the App Store and just ran through questions, 50 at a time, until I consistently scored 96% or above.  It all worked out well!

There are hundreds of YouTube videos.  Just search "N-400 Civics Questions".  My wife found them particularly useful because they more closely match the actual test where the questions are asked verbally and the answers are not multiple choice.  YouTube also has many mock interview videos that may be useful to some.

It required a little bit of tuning and instructions

- To only read what's in the list

- Read exactly how it's written

Etc.

Let me find the prompt...
