Affordable Connectivity Program

Hello,

 

My parents recently moved to the US I am looking to get them mobile phones and service. All the carriers I am looking into are offering a discounted rate for low income members through the affordable connectivity program. My parents doesn't work yet. Can they use that discount or will that be considered public charge?

I have been using Red Pocket and they seemingly have been taken over by Boost who apparently will be reducing my cost and increasing my Data. Waiting to find out the catch.

What about Xfinity? I am trying to set them up with home internet service and I keep getting offered the same program. It is a good program but I don't know if this is considered a public charge.

if over 50  they can join AARP and get discounts with most vendors

Thank you. They are over 55. Is there any other benefits or discounts that I can look for them to use?

Spectrum Mobile offers a BOGO unlimited talk, text, data line for $29.98, all taxes and fees included.  The 2nd line is free for 1 year.  I have Spectrum, and I have had no issues.

I use Mint Mobile which uses T-mobile’s network. For 5 gb/month + unlimited talk/text , it costs $180/year ($15/month). I think it is cheaper if you have multiple members together on an account as well. The service works great for me.

senior discounts at restaurants (sometimes its  a Senior menu)

hotel discounts

car rentals

some do not require AARP membership 

AARP  has  a list of discounts and places that offer them

and Senior living also does

I used to use Straight Talk $45 a month (Roughly $54 a month with taxes). Using CDMA phones because where I live Verizon works the best here in my area of East TN/where I live. 2nd best is US Cellular.
I switched over to T-Mobile Prepaid plan $25 a month, so my Husband and I use it and we pay about $57 a month with taxes on it.

Best to know what works in the area unless you're in a known populated city you can choose whatever. Sorry for going off topic!

The link does states if the person uses food stamp, housing voucher, Social Security Income, etc. So with food stamp can be considered using tax payer's money and if noticed and may charge the sponsor for paying back.
I'm not real clear if this ACP may do charges on the sponsor but after what I saw with the requirement, I'd stay away. Considering your parents over age of 55 is the area I don't know for sure about public charge in that area so hopefully someone can speak up.

I'd say it's likely a public charge.. unless otherwise.

Public charge is no longer a thing.
