MODERATION NOTE:  Many similar-themed threads and posts (from approximately July 2022, going back 60+ forum pages) have been combined into this master thread.  The current thread deals with environmentalism, climate change, activists' activities, policies, scientific analyses, etc.  (Not intentionally included are threads pertaining chiefly to electric vehicles or to Greta Thunberg; these remain in their original threads in this forum, to the extent possible.)  The posts below appear in chronological order as they were originally posted, perhaps causing minor disorder in replies.  This is a typical and unavoidable consequence of merging multiple threads.  Thanks for understanding.  Feel free to contribute constructively to this new master thread.

Wait, I thought wind turbines were utopian?  You mean they have issues in harsh conditions, and require oil for them to function?  I guess that's what you get when you buy these from Acme.

Hmm, people want reliable energy over intermittent energy?  Who knew?  I guess we will be seeing more strange people gluing themselves to things.

The German coal mine Garzweiler, operated by energy company RWE, admits the situation appears to be "paradoxical" — sacrificing one energy source for another — but defended the decision as necessary to strengthen supplies amid the ongoing energy crisis, Oilprice.com reported. 
 

"We realize this comes across as paradoxical," RWE spokesperson Guido Steffen said in a statement. "But that is as matters stand."
