Is it possible to add spouse (2 year green card holder)'s name to car title if they don't drive? What is the process and what are any pros or cons to think of?

This will vary by state.

In general

* this is possible

* the co-owner by law needs vehicle liability insurance. So see if your insurance company allows a non driver to be added to your auto insurance

* go to the DMV or county office to re-title the vehicle. Again varies by state

* consider getting a learners / instructional permit in case this eases the process. The co-owner of the vehicle does not have to drive to get the permit. But I can imagine the permit being required to ensure the car owner understands liability obligations

The most car friendly jurisdiction in the known universe. Good.

https://www.michigan.gov/sos/vehicle/titles

To add or remove a vehicle owner from the title, visit a Secretary of State office.

All listed owners on the title must be present and provide their valid license or ID in order to change or correct the title.

The fee to correct a name on a title is $15.

Schedule an office visit

That's the only thing that will be needed ? No insurance etc. to added?

I expect insurance will be needed. It does imply that a drivers license is not needed.

I would not add my name to a vehicle title without auto insurance in my name even if the state let me. That juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

The article is regarding driving but spouse doesn't drive. The question was just about adding name on  car title. If too complicated, probably won't do.

Fair enough.

Since google is not up to the task, try chat gpt:

”Even if the owner is not driving the vehicle, they can still be penalized if the vehicle is not insured. In Michigan, the law requires all registered vehicles to have liability insurance coverage, regardless of who is driving the vehicle. If an uninsured vehicle is involved in an accident, the owner of the vehicle may be held responsible for any damages or injuries caused.

Additionally, if a vehicle is registered in Michigan, the owner must provide proof of insurance when requested by law enforcement, even if the vehicle is not being driven at the time. Failure to provide proof of insurance can result in penalties such as fines and license suspension.

Therefore, it is important for vehicle owners in Michigan to maintain liability insurance coverage for their vehicles, even if they are not currently driving them.”

Pro side for immigration is it shows comingling of finances for any future immigration benefits like ROC or naturalization

and spouse should learn to drive especially if u have or intend to have family (just to take kids to everything )

and to give that person a sense of freedom and not depending on u

it's doable, but if just for the sake of comingling evidence, i will find other stronger comingling evidence. feel too much work just to change the title but thats me.

my husband never put my name on the title just because i dont want to take few hours leave from work just to go to town hall ( that's where we applied title). but im the one who drive the car 100% . he added my name on car insurance. that's all.

I wouldn't.  As a case officer, I would find it odd and perhaps a sign of desperation if I saw that an existing car title was updated with a non-driving spouse and little other evidence was presented.

If there is good amount of other relationship and commingling of finances evidence, then the car title would be of little added value.

Either way, I do not see how the car title helps.  If it was a new purchase and both parties want to claim ownership from the get-go, that I would understand.  Especially if both names are on the car loan.

This ^^.

I recommend drafting wills, medical powers of attorney, and similar documents.  These make excellent evidence for ROC, and they're even more crucial to have in "life."

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
