Asylum case processing time

Hello

I have a friend who filed for asylum 8 years ago, and have never had any interview or reply from USCIS. He renews his permit regularly, but no news about his case! Does anybody have a case like this or knows information about processing time of asylum cases. Appreciate your replies.

Perhaps he should contact his Congressman's office to get an idea of the status of the request.

There are over 2 million asylum claims and going up so this is not uncommon.

 

Only way I know of getting an interview is to file a Writ of Mandamus.

I wouldn’t look a  gift horse in the mouth. New asylums are now “ handled” / decided within 12 months and majority are denied.

Agree you would only want an interview if you had a solid case.

 

I see it a lot on the TV news and also in the MSM, they interview Migrants and listen to their story and then end with the statement that they will be seeking asylum when they have no basis to obtain it.

"I'm going to New York. I've got a niece there," said Elois Acelvedo, a Nicaraguan woman who said she was left penniless after being robbed while travelling alone on the journey north. "A guy from the city came yesterday and told us they'd help. But nobody's come back."

For Ms Acelvedo, getting to New York is urgent. Choking back tears, she explained that her three sons - the youngest under a year old - remain in Nicaragua and are depending on her.

 

"It's a sacrifice…life in Nicaragua was impossible. I could have worked like a slave and made just $30 (£25) a week. Even food was so expensive," she said. "Now, thank God, I'll be able to send money. That's all I want."

I am pretty sure that this has also was on CNN, sorry no link, so this family had arrived in NY a few days earlier and Mother was being interviewed, usual stuff, and she mentioned that her husband had found a job in Construction.

 

They had not filed for asylum, but were going to, after 5 months you can apply for EAD so the big question was how, the 'reporter' did not ask

Ignorance of legal-immigration principles, even the most basic, is understandable among the general populace.

It's also understandable among the illegal-immigrant populace, fed by rumors, tall tales, outright lies, etc.

One would think that reporters would educate themselves at least a little before accepting assumptions or pronouncements without question.

How did they get admitted at the border without requesting asylum?

All they do at the Border is check to see if you have a well founded fear. Given a date for a initial Court hearing.
