My wife and I are a lesbian couple. We sent her AOS forms in late March, and she did the biometrics the following month of this year. We just checked the USCIS on the status of her case today, and it says "request for initial evidence." They're requesting our marriage certificate. Did the USCIS actually lose our marriage certificate carelessly, or are they being stricter with us because we're homosexuals? We don't mind mailing or scanning the certificate, but it leaves an uncomfortable feeling right now. 😔

My wife and I are dealing with my mother who is becoming more physically and mentally ill these past several months, and even 911 couldn't take my mother to a hospital a few days ago. My wife and I need something good to happen in our life right now, and we're losing a lot of hope on things.

USCIS, occasionally, looses or requests the same thing.

Don't make a mountain out of an anthill. Just give them what they ask. I mean, it's just a simple copy of your marriage certificate

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

It's not unusual for them to ask for something that was already sent.  We never really know the reason, but I'm sure it's never personal.

Ensure it is a photocopy of the original copy stamped or sealed by the county clerk or a photocopy of the certified copy of the original stamped or sealed copy.

My county clerk sent me copy that was not stamped or sealed in error and I had to request the correct full original with the stamp (or seal).

It’s unlikely to be about that, they lose things all the time. Just photocopy and add to file. A very easy fix :)
