Hmm, similar case, different country.  Has Old Joe proclaimed that this person or the others in Mexico that forgot they had a firearm in their luggage or car are being wrongfully detained?

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

So it appears that the Brandon Administration is following the lead of Obama ala the Bo Bergdahl deal.  Does anyone think that this arms dealer is not going to go back to work and possibly assist Russia in their fight with Ukraine?  Heck, he might be able to swing a deal to get some of the left-overs from Afghanistan, or work with some of the corrupt Ukrainians, to pick up some of that shiny weaponry the US is providing with no oversight.

President Joe Biden backed the prisoner swap after months of discussion within his administration, potentially setting up a win before the midterms, CNN reported Wednesday, citing several unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

 

The Department of Justice typically doesn’t support prisoner swaps, but DOJ officials eventually joined State Department and top White House officials in their plan to swap Russian arms trafficker Viktor Bout for the two American prisoners.

After the prisoners swap, it wouldn't be surprising if Russia gives her a "thank you for cooperation" note with a million dollar check (her usual annual income from her Russian team). They wouldn't have gotten their guy even for hundreds of millions of dollars otherwise. After all it wouldn't have been possible if she hadn't travelled while carrying the illegal items when US had just put "Do not Travel to Russia" alert less than a month ago.

I agree.  He should counter with Paul Whelen for the Merchant of Death, but for Ms. Griner, he needs much much more.

She will be back in the US about 4-6 weeks before the midterms, just in time for her to be paraded around as a foreign policy victory. I believe she could have been released several months ago but it would have been too early to use her as a propaganda tool. 

 

Look for someone to step up to be the "key negotiator" to take the credit for her release, that person will be the one hand picked to primary Biden.
