Difficulties with making an appointment for a medical examination in Frankfurt for Ukrainians (k1 visa)

Hello,

We are now in the final stretch of obtaining our K1 visa.
The path was 2 years long and very difficult, starting with RFE, refusal, appeals and ending with the war in Ukraine.

Now our documents are in Frankfurt and there is an opportunity to sign up for an interview with the consul.  There are no recording issues here.

But the problem is that the queue for a medical examination is very long, two months ahead.  If I wait for her, then my legal stay in the EU will increase the 90 days that I can legally be as a tourist.  I did not apply for any temporary asylum or refugee status, as I did not see the need for it.

The question is, does anyone know how to speed up the process of passing a medical examination for Ukrainians?  We wrote them a letter, but there was a standard answer, sign up in the order of the queue, we can’t help in any way.

Is it really so and there are no control levers ?!
After all, now even an interview with the consul for Ukrainians is a priority.

Hello! Всё понятно)

Medical examinations are booked full right now, unfortunately, as everyone needs them urgently. As an example, examinations in Warsaw are delayed over a month - and they only take Russians and Belarusians (in addition to Poles). I do not believe you will have any luck speeding up your medical examination in Frankfurt, sadly, as they have become the designated spot for Ukrainians - and there's a lot.

However, I have heard from other users here that there are several places for medical exams in Germany. Have you tried contacting those? I am not familiar with them myself, but perhaps others can help with that information. If everything else in Germany is booked, you can perhaps try asking the embassy if they'd permit you to do medical in another country. If they say yes, I can imagine you having much better luck in, say, Austria or France.

Stay safe!

Thanks for your reply.  In Germany, medical examinations are accepted only in two cities in Berlin and Frankfurt.  In both cities there is a very long queues, more than 2 months.

I know that passing a medical examination in other countries was not allowed.  If something has changed, is there an idea where this information can be found?

Are you a Ukrainian citizen? If so, you may want to apply for temporary protection status in the EU.  https://ec.europa.eu/info/strategy/priorities-2019-2024/stronger-europe-world/eu-solidarity-ukraine/eu-assistance-ukraine/information-people-fleeing-war-ukraine_en (info available in Russian and Ukrainian as well).

That way, you would be able to stay for a year, which would hopefully be enough time to get your visa. Best of luck to you and your family.

I defer to other users on that, but it was wise of you to already contact Berlin and ask about their appointment times. I only mention foreign medical exams because so much is 'in the air' with Ukraine filers, that there could be special rules applying to them. I've even heard of interviews happening in Belgium, which seemed to me impossible based on Frankfurt being designated as the default embassy, so who knows? If the medical exam cannot be done before your interview at the current pace, I do recommend calling the embassy and asking about other alternatives. Never hurts to ask.

In any case,  I agree fully with what @CMJuilland posted above. There are ways for Ukrainians to get protection and extended stay in the EU, which are probably useful for you regardless of how long you will need to stay for. I'm not completely sure how EU protective status works, but I highly doubt that, once awarded, they'd force you to stay for the full year. After all, the status is only temporary, and the EU probably expects many people to return home if/when conditions become safer in Ukraine. I'd definitely get in touch with some refugee agencies within Germany to see what your temporary stay options are while you await your K1 interview.

I have already studied this issue.  The fact is that now, due to the large number of Ukrainians, this process takes a lot of time + to obtain a status for temporary protection, I need to look for those who will register me in their housing.  It is very uncomfortable.  Since the question is only in the timing of the medical board.

There is another option to go to the German Embassy and ask to extend your stay in Europe for more than 90 days.  But it's such a bureaucracy🤦🏼‍♀️  I don't know how long it will take either.

I would recommend he call directly. I understand the time zone is uncomfortable, but support will take ages to write you back; it’s easier to just wait an hour on hold with the embassy. They have access to the same information.

I’m racking my brain thinking about your problem with staying in Europe. I almost wonder if it would be better to go to Poland and see what they can do for you there. I recognize the advantages of staying in Germany, but I had no idea it was that bureaucratic (although, it is Germany, I take that back :))

Hey. I'm staying in Paris right now, my petition is at NVC stage. My 90 days will run out in May and I likely won't be in time to complete everything.

Extending the stay is the best option, in my opinion. You and I both just need time, not housing or work permits that come with temporary protection status. Some prefectures in France offer to contact them before 90 days run out and apply for a short term residency permit. I plan to do so myself soon. With this permit you can travel within the EU as well.

I also think it's worth double checking with Frankfurt regarding medical in another country. Someone earlier shared a reply from them here:
