Translation for i-130

I'm the beneficiary and I'm filing with my wife the petitioner and we are applying online. When uploading the evidence documents in my native language. Can I do the translation myself? Or is that taken as being biased cuz I'm the beneficiary and I should have a certified  translator do it? Thank you

Here is what I found.  It looks like it is not advisable for the petitioner or the beneficiary translate documents, although I have heard of petitioners, or spouses doing it without issues.  Personally, I would see if you have a friend or acquaintance who is fluent in both languages translate these for you, or look for a service.  If you have a friend do it, you can add the statement in the second link.

Anyone, excluding the petitioner or a beneficiary, who is fluent in English and the language of the foreign document, may translate the foreign document. This means that you may not translate your own documents or the documents of any individual(s) involved in the application or petition. Although 30 years ago, I was told that I could have translated the document, we recommend that you also exclude close relatives, to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

I, the petitioner, translated my husband's birth certificate (in 2016) for AOS. Didn't have any issues or questions about it

 

Back when I was going through immigration stuff I searched all over the uscis.gov site and didn't find any place that restricts either the petitioner or the beneficiary from translating their documents. For me when it came to immigration questions I treatd the USCIS website like the bible; the information I needed straight from the source!

you will have to submit documentation to the consulate during the interview and they require official translation from a qualified translator.

Might as well get the documents (in your native language) translated the proper way, meaning by an official translator and keep the originals for the interview

Hey Bro , Im Tunisian and i was there too , you need only to type on word to be converted to PDF, your full name and your address ( Bel3arbi , betounsi) and you uplaod , you good !!

That's not completely accurate. Translations must include additional language and signature from the translator, "certifying" they are fluent in both languages and that the translation is true and accurate.  There is no general prohibition against the petitioner or beneficiary acting as the translator, but there are countries like China, where the only translations accepted are from a specific Chinese Government authorized translator.

 

Note also that for Tunisia, if the native language is Arabic, this is not merely "translation".  It is "transliteration" meaning translation from a different alphabet.  That said, my advice is to translate the documents yourself, but have a trusted friend look them over and sign/certify.  This way YOU do the work instead of asking a friend to do it.  Lot's easier for the friend to check your work than to burden them to actually do it.
