Hi,

I got married while in the US on a B2 visitor's visa. I overstayed my 6 months stay. I'm living in the US with my husband. What petition do I need to file?

Also, I'd like to apply for a social security card so we can set up joint accounts. What do I need to apply for a social security card?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Once you get your EAD or GC you can apply for a Green Card.

The immigration process requires a great deal of knowledge, planning, time, patience, and money.  Start by reading the guides here for your situation.  Be aware that you cannot work or leave the US for 6-8 months.

You'll file the I-130 and I-485 concurrently for the AOS. It would be also a good idea to file for EAD and AP. Read through the guides pinned above and that should help to clarify a lot. There's no grounds for you to get a SSN atm. You'll have to wait for the EAD or Greencard to be able to do so.

As mentioned before you don't need a SSN for insurance or bank accounts but you have to be persistent cause many will tell you it's needed. Go up the chain till you get to somebody who knows the rules.

You don't need a social security for him to add you to his account or for both of you to open a joint account.

You have to follow this guide

Thanks 😊
