Does she howl? ย We go to a dog bar here in Seattle, and one of the regulars is a person with two huskies. ย One of them howls with joy when they arrive and he gets to see his friends. ย SO CUTE!

Awww! ย  Such sweet giants. ย  We also have a rescue Akbash (Turkish breed), both are from the Great Pyrenees Rescue Society. ย Both are livestock guardian breeds. ย Upton was rescued from a breeder hoarding situation in Texas, and Azra was found at a campground in Idaho, lactating, but no puppies were found.

ย

We live in the suburbs, but sometimes I'm tempted to get a small flock of goats for them to protect!

*herd of goats.

ย

i know, i just couldnt let that correction go by LMAO

ย

we have chickens, ducks, and goats currently. we've talked about adding beef cattle but have yet to do it.

ย

We have a very high predator load, so without them, we would not have any livestock. we recently pulled the guardians in one night during a particularly bad storm (we were worried about trees coming down and knocking out part of the fence and the dogs getting out). Hubby brought them in around midnight? Let them back out around 4 am. When we went out around 630ย  to open up the barns we found half our chicken flock had been... eliminated. 30+ birds. It took us half the day of combing our property (mostly heavily wooded) to find *most*. That was less than a month ago. As long as the guardians are out, we have zero issues.

ย

I am always quite serious when I say they are the superstars of this farm. They are EXCEPTIONAL at what they do.

Here is one of Upton and Azra both. ย It was a rare moment of both smiling, during our June heatpocalypse (109F), and they were keen to come back in immediately after peeing.
