This. FYI the category is F2B. You need to stay single as long as your father is just a GC holder or the petition will die.
(If he becomes a citizen then it’s ok if you marry (and you can bring your spouse with) but the category will change to F3 and the wait time will just about double.)

Just to emphasize you do not apply …your father files a petition for you, and when your time in the queue comes up (approx 6 years as above) you will be invited to interview for an immigrant visa.

So my dad has been there for around 8/9 years now. I don't have a spouse here to bring over so would that rule out the marriage part?

It doesn’t matter how long your dad has been there, if he is only a green card holder you need to stay single to get an immigrant visa based on a petition from him. If you don’t think you will get married anytime in the next 6 years or so then don’t worry about what I said about marriage. I mentioned it because it is not unusual for a single person at your age to get married or at least think about it within a 5-7 year timeframe.

With the F2B does this mean I will have to stay in UK or is there an interim visa I can apply for to live in USA while I wait the 6 years?

Also my dad got married to a US citizen before I was 18 which makes her my step-mother...Will that help the process?

F1 for stepson of USC, F2B for son of LPR, both categories will take 6 or 7 years because you are over 21 but the wait time could change depending on how many petitions are filed, so the sooner your LPR father or USC stepmother file an I-130 petition on your behalf, the better.  There is no "interim" visa to live in the US, you'll have a 6+ year wait if you want to immigrate, assuming there are no delays and that an immigrant visa is eventually approved.  You can enter for short periods of time to visit with a valid B2 tourist visa or ESTA during the 6-7 year wait, keep in mind that entry to the US and time allowed to stay is up to the CBP officer at the POE.  Good luck!
