Hello Everyone!

My mother ( polish citizen with VWP and valid 10 years Tourist Visa) bought her plane ticket from Poland  direct flight to Los Angeles couple of weeks ago.. we got excited that this connection got started again and purchased the ticket. She is fully vaccinated.

Then  we realized that there was a ban for Schengen area..:-( My mother tries to contact airlines to ask some questions, but unfortunately nobody answers. I read that parents of US citizen that are below 21 years old can visit, unfortunately I am way over 21 years old.

My question would be if anybody flew recently to US from Schengen area on tourist visa?

People have flown, but they were not impacted by the ban.

The travel ban has been active for over a year, I'm surprised you missed that.

She can spend two weeks outside Schengen (and other "banned" countries) and then enter the US (without transfer in any "travel ban country").

She will not be allowed to board the plane.  You need a new plan.

After that connection started again, we got excited and got the ticket. When she called the airline informed her she would need a vaccine to be able to get on the plane. I wish we had done more research before buying that ticket. 😩

What connection started again? And there is no vaccine requirement to enter the US, however, there is a requirement to take a Covid test within 3 days before traveling. Are you sure she understood the airline correctly? Or does the airline itself maybe have a vaccine requirement (I have not heard of this but maybe some are??)

I think there is to enter Iceland, I know of no Airlines that have their own policies.

By connection I meant direct flight from Warsaw to LA. Last year when pandemic happened they cancelled all flights. So when they reopen flights to US again my mom booked her flight after speaking to airline representative who told her she would have to be vaccine to board on a flight to US..

Unfortunately the airline did not informed my mother about restrictions and we did not do research prior to buying ticket.

No way of knowing but seems unlikely.

Again, the US does not have a vaccine requirement for travelers. Either she got something confused, or the airline got confused with direction of travel/what the EU is requiring for US passengers (I don’t even know if that is implemented yet?)

Also playing devils advocate: The restrictions don’t apply to everyone so not sure it is the airline’s responsibility to inform her, and as noted above this ban has been place for over a year now. I don’t know what airline she is using but the ones I have used during COVID all have warnings on their websites to check for any possible COVID-related restrictions at destination.

Must have been a tier 1 USCIS officer moonlighting at the airline call center.
