Hello,

My fiancé and I got engaged last year in January. We have downloaded the paperwork for the K1 visa but have begun doing more extensive research on it after seeing all the changes made since we first asked about it at the local immigration office. We know that in the last four years, several changes were made and some are going to be reviewed and possibly removed. Specifically, we've got several questions about the social media account disclosure form, and we wondered if anyone here could help us:

  • What do they do about social media accounts that were used within the last 5 years but were deleted/are no longer accessible due to forgetting the password or username?
  • When it comes to chat sites like Discord, will they read through every comment in every server? Or is that considered private due to the invite-only nature of Discord servers? I assume they won't check DMs at least, since my fiancé and I don't use Discord to chat.
  • On the same line, does it look suspicious if I deleted comments at any point? Should I disclose why?
  • What websites constitute "social media"? Is there a list I can access?

For a bit more info: we began looking into possible visas in 2015. Between then and now the social media disclosure form was added to the K1 visa, and we just want to know how thorough that will be, assuming it stays as part of the visa process.

Can’t see any social media stuff on I-129F.

Maybe this is for DS-160?

Answer truthfully and to the best of your ability.

I don’t see the point of worrying about this now.

You're way overthinking this! It's not as complicated as you're making it out to be. You don't need to provide them login information, and they're not going to go through your private messages. They're just asking to see any of your public social media accounts.

I'm not sure why you would expect to submit Discord as part of your social media. Discord is a messaging platform, it's nothing like the kinds of socials that they are asking to see. We submitted Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Twitch links. You don't need to give them your login information, just declare your usernames. I'm also not sure why you're worried about deleted messages - they wouldn't be able to see that either. I understand your concerns because this is a scary process, but you will be okay.

Thanks very much, this assuaged most of my worries. My fiancé's main concern is an email account he deleted in the last few years that he can't remember the username for. If he can't remember the username, will they not believe him? Do we need to include email addresses at all? We've gotten conflicting information about that.

If even he can't find the email address, how would they? They won't care about that! They'll want to know about your actual active social medias, not random ones that even you don't have access to. The DS-160 asks for your email address and then asks if you have any additional email addresses. List the ones you use!

I think he/she got confused because if you google about it, it says how you MUST provide links to all social media that you used in past 5 years (even deleted ones). I am actually glad to read that they are looking for active accounts only!

I had FB account that I only used as gaming account (had profile picture of my character in game and my char name), long gone, since 2017, deleted and never made new FB again. No way of providing even email that I used when registering, since I used some random hotmail account that probably also does not exist anymore..😳
