No Credit Score for K1 Visa??

Hello everyone!

 

I am looking for someone to guide me a little bit on what is the best way to establish my husband's (brand new GC holder!!) credit score? Can someone guide me a little bit on this? Or maybe share a personal experience that really worked?

Soon after she arrived in the US, I added my wife as an authorized user to my existing Citibank credit card.  I made sure this card reports authorized users to credit agencies. After about 4 months of use, her credit report appeared on Credit Karma.   She then started getting offers in the mail.

Seconding adding your spouse as an authorized user to any credit cards you have. In my experience adding my husband to my AMEX was the fastest at generating a good score in a short period of time. There might be some credit card companies out there who are willing to approve someone with no credit history, but the waiting period would be the same as you need to use it and pay it off over a period of time for the score to accumulate.

I third that.

 

If you can add your spouse to anything else like bills, rental leases - anything that gets reported to credit  bureaus about payments being done on time

In addition to the great tips others have given, I would caution you to make sure that the primary credit card holder (whether you, as the spouse, or someone else) has good credit and makes regular payments. Otherwise, your husband would just "inherit" a bad credit score from the primary account holder.
