Hello all,

My husband (beneficiary) has an extensive travel and work history due to his profession (mainly business related in different countries)

He has work experience in Oman (full time sales), Dubai (UAE, full time job in marketing/sales), Germany (part-time tutoring in his university while simultaneously completing MBA in International Management).

He has travelled to Romania (internship at University), London, France and Italy on vacation ( all lasting less than a week).

He is an Indian citizen. He has possession of all his old/expired passports.

He had purchased valid visas in order to visit those countries and he never violated any visas while working in those countries.

I have to get police certificates from Oman, Dubai, India and Germany at the Embassy/consulate stage which is in Mumbai, India.

--We also have a 5 year old USC daughter and am trying to gauge how long this will take (other than the usual 12-18 month processing).

My i-130 is not yet approved, however, I am just trying to see what to expect because of the travel history.. and work history.. Thanks for all the advice.

We are in a pandemic,  so anything is truly a guess.

First question will be, when will Mumbai reopen for routine processing?  Next, how long will it take you to get the case document qualified at NVC?  Third, how long is the queue in front of you when the petition gets document qualified?

I truly doubt any of his extensive travel will bear anything on the case

YMMV

So long as you’ve got all the right police certificates Plus translations if required and can remember the addresses of where he lived whilst there, it’s not going to have any affect on the timeliness of his case, it’s just a matter of entering the information and uploading the certificates at NVC stage along with everything else the would normally ask for.

12 to 18 months seems as reasonable a estimate as any.

You didnt say what kind of work he does. If he is in a STEM field the background checks can take a bit longer and they sometimes ask in the interview about his line of work. He needs to be prepared for this and ready to answer any questions. You know how theres a long running joke on the TV show friends about Chandlers job being  'statistical analysis and data reconfiguration'? What the heck is that? He needs to be able to tell them in simple terms exactly what he does. This is all because of terrorism concerns. I mean if your job is working with deadly infectious diseases or you are some sort of explosive chemical specialist- they are going to look a bit harder to make sure you are on the 'right side' even though you are immigrating on family visa and not work.

He has a degree in engineering, however his job is not directly related engineering. It is more in the marketing/sales of elevators in businesses and airports. Like he works for a company that sells elevator models to businesses in various countries.

Thank you all.

I have heard from a few people that Mumbai Consulate has started processing IR1/CR1 visas, and people were able to go to Interview, and receive visa, and fly to US with the Air Bubble.

I-130 Approval for my wife took about 7 months. (TSC).

Currently Our Case is going to NVC, Current Case creation time is approximately 5 days. Even though NVC is working with reduced staffing, due to COVID, but there are a lot of Visa Cases, which are not being processed due to President Trump EO, which is extended till 31st December, but Spouse of USC is exempt from this, and our cases are being processed.

Current time for NVC to review all documents after submission is around 2 months, and since PCC's The validity of the PCC is one year from the date of issue. Bring the new PCC if the one you have submitted has already expired, please note that the PCC needs to be within the 1 year timeframe for interview as well, this is on US visa website, http://cdn.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-iv-visaapply.asp.

So as long as you have all the documents submitted, review time will most likely be the same, and then once you are documentarily approved, they will send the case to consulate to schedule the Interview, and will give instruction for Medical Exam.

Another thing that I have noticed with certain Timelines that even though we are in COVID, and Immigration is not working with full capacity, there are certain cases which are still being processed without much delay due to the fact the There is an Executive Order, barring a lot of visa applicants, You can see this on NVC website NVC cannot provide any additional details on the 22-APR-20 Presidential Proclamation suspending entry of some immigrants. If you call or email on this topic, you will be directed to review the announcement and exceptions which are available at: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/Proclamation-Suspending-Entry-of-Immigrants-Who-Present-Risk-to-the-US-labor-market.html

Hope this info helps. Let me know if you need any other info. I have just completed USCIS Stage, and in the NVC stage now

The travel usually isn't an issue. Avoid North Korea ;)  Probably a good rule of thumb is to add 6 to 8 months to the timeline due the consulates being backed up.   Granted they aren't processing IR5s and other Family preference visas and not doing many K1s but they aren't fully staffed either.   Don't get the police certificates until getting to the NVC.

Police certificates for any country besides his current country of residence can be obtained at any time.  If not in English or the local language in India, get certified translations.
