Hi all, I am the petitioner who is in the same country as the applicant.

I am a nurse and has already passed NCLEX and got all the RN license and credentials needed for being a nurse in the states in January 2020.

Our packet 3 was sent in mid March 2020 but since then the consulate has suspended all K1 visa interviews.

Originally we planned to move together to the states together after her K1 visa is approved. It has been 6 months still no interview yet.

Do you think I have any ground to request expedite appointment using reason of national interest - medical professional who is willing to do COVID jobs?

Or shall I go alone first (I do not have any family nor close relatives there) to get an actual job before asking for expediting our case?

Appreciate some input. Thank you.

You can try, but as a k1 you are not work authorized upon arrival.

YMMV

Thanks for reply! I am U.S. citizen so I can work immediately when I arrive. (Applicant is not a nurse, only petitioner is)

I don't see how the fiance would qualify under an NIE .  You are free to return to the US at any time.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

As a USC you can return here at any time, unhindered. Sure that means you will be separated but that’s of no priority concern for the US government.

As an aside, for anyone reading this and still unsure of which path to follow, it’s usually better if you are already in the same country to marry first and file for a CR-1 spouse visa. These are “mission critical” in the eyes of the DOS so they were given priority when embassies reopened. As well as the usual benefits of the CR-1 (resident status immediately upon arrival, no AOS Circus to go through, work authorization immediately...).

Well understood. Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately our country does not support same-sex marriage, and we couldn't file a CR-1 visa unless we travel to somewhere out of Asia to get married...

What state board did you apply for?

You can only get a RN license from one state. You don't get it for states as in used anywhere in the USA.

California and endorsed to Colorado, got a compact nursing license as well. Pretty much covered. By "all" only means minimum requirement needed to land any general nursing job in the U.S., e.g. an active RN license in the state I apply for, plus AHA BLS and ACLS credentials. Apologies for not explaining in laymen term.

Many moons ago I used to help people from Philippines get qualified to sit for NCLEX, Most applied at California since they at the time did their own evaluation of college transcripts and they would issue a RN License from California without entrance to the USA. I am aware of the terms.   Good times back then, Since USCIS did retrogression back in 2007 and stopped bringing in foreign nurses on work visa, I quit doing that.

But don't you need a specific license in each state where you wish to practice?  Each state state has their own requirements.

Off Topic:  I took the NCLEX exam in 1993...and passed ( My preparation consisted of reviewing a 5000 question guide, then nothing for 2 weeks prior to the exam).......LOL...

Was it paper and pencil back then, Lucky Cat?

I took mine in 2000, and by then it was all computerized.  The test would stop once there was enough data for a pass or fail, and you'd get anywhere from 75-200 questions using an algorithm of how you did with 'difficult' Qs.  So when it shut off at 75, we knew we'd either aced it or screwed up bigly, lol.  Inexplicably, I ended up with loads of psych nursing Qs - my least fave practice area!

Yep.  But a license can be acquired without retesting, since the exam is the same nationally.  Each state board of nursing can have other requirements that differ, though.  We currently have a traveler on our unit from the deep south, and she has licensure in multiple states.
