Hi there,

My fiance and I currently live in Japan and we've filed I-129F on Aug. 20th, and still haven't heard anything from USCIS.

Looking at people's timeline, looks like some people sent it after us but already got noa1 and that makes me really nervous.

Does this mean something went wrong?

The petitioner should get email or a mail right?

ours sent on July 1 and got the update on July 13th. Did you keep the tracking No? maybe you could track the file sent ?? They would send a Text first if you  put an US contact number in the file and mail NOA1 to you. NOwadays they process a little slower due to covid-19.

Good luck!! Hope you  could received it soon.

If you live in Japan, how did you send it? Because they don’t accept the petitions from overseas. You have to be in US when you send it. And they send you NOA 1 via USPS to your American address

According to fedex, they received it 3 days after I sent it, and they've charged the filing fee, so I'm sure they havw our application.. I'll ask my fiance to check junk mail box again just make sure we didn't miss anything! Thanks for your reply!

I'm afraid that's not true, you are able to file from overseas.

Maybe that's why it's late I wonder? We put my fiance's parents address in the U.S., so they'll send noa1 to the address?

If they already charged you then should be ok, what happened to us is that they sent text to my bf US number first and the NOA mail did not come in two weeks later. and Our check was actually being charged on the date my bf received the text. So have your finance's parents check their mailbox, it should be coming anytime soon

This is false.  I have personally filed from overseas using Fedex without issue.

Actually, right after I read your reply my fiance told me that his mom called him to tell that she received the NOA1! That was a huge relief!! Thank you so much for your help:)

Glad to hear that! That's what I thought too, I remember hearing that as long as the petitioner is back and found a stable job before the interview it doesn't really matter where you file the form from!

Thanks for your reply:)

USCIS does not care where you are physically located when you mail the petition.
