I think that could be a good strategy for them, but I'm not sure that it would pass through the Senate and if it did I'm not sure it wouldn't be vetoed by the executive branch. I've heard nothing back from either my representative nor one of the senators I've contacted. It doesn't seem like it's on their radar, unfortunately. Just hoping that at least my wife gets the 10 year green card before the furloughs. Good luck to you!

If you applied for N -400 while your I-751 is processing, then I fear no chance of getting ROC approved before combo interview. They will transfer your case to local field office after you filed for N-400.

Any clue what we should do if we get close to having our conditional permanent residency expire? I currently have the 18 month extension letter that ends in December. I applied for N-400 in May.  It doesn't seem possible that it will get processed before my 18 months are up.

Your residency doesn't expire, only the proof of residency expires.

Really? So what's the point of the 18 month extension?

The point is to have proof of your status in case you look for a new job (proof of status is needed to fill out the i9 for instance) and if you need to travel abroad then you need proof of your status to get back into the US. That's the point.

That makes me feel a little uneasy because I do drive through BP check points in Texas. Idk what they will do once all my paperwork is expired.. I was just reading about the i-551 passport stamp as another option of proof. I would need an infopass appointment for something like that, which I can't imagine I will get any time soon.

Yeah it's a bit tricky to get a stamp right now due to the virus, they only accept emergencies still. No idea when they will start handing out stamps to non-emergency cases.

I have until December, so hopefully I'll figure something out  before then. I travel through a check point to visit my family. At worst, I won't be able to go home to see them anymore from where I work until I can either get a passport stamp or my N400 application goes through.  Anyway, I appreciate you being so helpful!

When checking the old USCIS case status page, is anyone else receiving the message "user defined error"? This only happens when checking the N-400 case status. Case status for i-751 is the same as the new USCIS case status site.

For reference, our N-400 case number begins with IOE.

Yes this is happening for me too. My case number for my N-400 is not working on the old site or the app anymore.

Thanks for responding. It is odd. Just another unknown in the process.

I visited the forum today to search for this exact question. My husband is in a similar position, as we filed for his ROC in April 2019 (still pending) and N-400 in May 2020 (obviously also pending). His 18-month extension expires at the end of January 2021.

USCIS is going to have to come up with some type of fix, because thousands of people are likely going to be confronting the same issue if USCIS furloughs 75% of its workforce (slowing approvals way down) and we're not able to make infopass appointments due to the pandemic. Maybe they will automatically renew for another 12-18 months and send everyone letters?

Yes, i am still having issues with the old site. When i look up my case it shows "USER-DEFINED ERROR".  Its been like that for 2 weeks now. New site is working, but i guess away around the old site is to call the customer service number and have the automated system look up your case and it will tell you the same as the old site.

I think they are trying to phase out the old website as for N-400 applicants they have given IOE numbers, but I dont see any movement for now even for biometrics, they should honestly just reuse the biometrics from our ROC (they did this for my friend who applied for I-751), I filed on May 8th 2020. Hopefully they give us some notification on next steps if possible, but its sad as most of them are going to be furloughed. :(

I filed June 1st 2020 and haven't had any movement. Clarification on biometrics would be nice but who knows anything at this point. They postponed the furlough until Aug 30th now.
