I never once suggested we should keep it up all year...I said we had a fire to put out and couldn't just use a sprinkler anymore because we didn't start using the sprinkler on time. We now have control over the fire but we haven't put it out yet. As I wrote last night in another thread, I think starting to ease in about 2 weeks would make the most sense. To me, anyway.

I think this should have given us ample time to plan and prepare for life "alongside corona" with different, less severe measures that we can live with longer, unfortunately I don't see that we used that time wisely. I don't think we'll even be ready in 2 weeks, but we'll probably be as ready as we're going to be.

Does anyone really ever control a virus once it gets out?

Yes. I believe small pox has been completely eradicated. Measles probably could be too if not for people who don't want to get vaccinated. Depends on how transmissible the virus is, how the immune system responds and how well the vaccine or treatments work.

You are correct. The only place you will find small pox today is a lab. You are also correct about measles. You can add Polio to your list also.

I came very close to dying from measles as a child. Fevers as high as 106.

I remember several from my moms era twisted and crippled from that hideous virus. (POLIO) . FDR and Warm Springs come to mind.

I dont know why so many people are being so ignorant about such issues today

Posted in another thread.

Measles immunization campaigns have been suspended in at least 23 countries that had targeted more than 78 million children, the report says, which will lead to more measles oubreaks. Keep in mind that more than 140,000 people died from measles in 2018, according to the World Health Organization. Most of them were under age 5.

A general reminder that "flattening the curve" never was supposed to mean "fewer infections"; it was meant to keep hospital systems from being overwhelmed all at once.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Like I said last night, the graphic is neat, but very misleading.  Yes, it tells a small part of the story, but as with all statistics, it paints the picture the author wants it to.

Using basic maff, there have been 42,201 US covid deaths.  50 days since 1 March.  By my calculations, that's 844 per day, not 2400.

Not everyone who refuses to vaccinate is using ignorance as a motivator.  Sometimes, it's good sense.  For example, when my son was born in 1997, the medical folk tried to force me to give him the live polio virus.  I refused.  Several times in fact.  I was warned that he would never be allowed to go to school without it.  And yet I knew inside myself that the risk of polio infection was greater to my wife and I if we let them do it.  So I kept saying no.

Then one day, the powers that be agreed with me, and the OPV was no more.  My kids got the IPV, and I felt good that I had stood my ground.  It was refreshing to visit the doctor's office and have the very same nurse who had threatened and badgered me for over two years and have her say, "you were right.  This time."

Actually, on April 14th, the amount of deaths attributed to Covid19 was 29825, and the number of days from March 1 through April 14 is 45 days, making the average 663 over the period of the chart.

I know, I was worst-casing it to illustrate how far off the graphic actually is.

No doubt, I have no idea where the 2407 came from on April 14.  If you take the total world deaths on April 14, the average daily is 2898.

I've never been a big fan of how they try to do all the vaccines on the same visit. I deferred some for 6 months or a year with my kids (until the next visit). I don't actually think it's a great thing for the immune system to be responding to several immunogens at once. They did get all their recommended vaccines over time though.

I had relatives who had measles say the same thing. People have forgotten how bad some of these diseases were, and it's unfortunate.

Yeah, I did the same thing.  Having been in the military, I KNEW what it could do to our bodies when we got 15 vaccines in one sitting.  Not a smart way to do business.
