It may indeed become that bad, one day soon.  For now?  Not so much.  You might want to go back to the top and read the article in the OP.

Nearly 13,000 dead from covid.  What's the flu up to this season?

Dude, past time to wake up.

Dude, I was awake when this started.  Let's hope we're both around in a month to see who was right, eh?  Feel free to make fun of me if it turns out I was wrong.

Most people with the flu don't go to hospitals and overwhelm the healthcare system, because they know they have the flu, and will stay home and take care of themselves.  Due to the uncertainty, and the panic created in the news that so many watch today, people ARE heading into the hospitals in droves, and overwhelming the systems.  If I had a cough and a fever, I might too.  But in the past 30 years, I have never been to a doctor because of the flu.  I stayed my ### home and got better.

People with mild symptoms aren't overwhelming hospitals. They are assessed in ER then sent home to be quarantined. There was actually more of that early on IMO, before much information was available. Most of the people in hospital now are in bad shape. They need to be there.

In any ER's that allow people deciding on their own to go to ER's, they're going to be flooded with people worried about this, and naturally, sent home, in any system where people are actively seek care (it's a novelty to many Americans because preventative healthcare isn't as common as it should be). This is where controlling the flow of people toward an ER has been essential, but rarely done.

Why I know its not inherently indicative of many people being in bad shape is, it happens every flu season in Canada, which is why smart people don't go to ER's unless they're having an actual emergency to get prioritized by triage. Thus why specific clinics assessing the virus were made here, along with changing the way nurses on 811 handle complaints. Otherwise people unnecessarily flood the ER's. ER waiting rooms are already a petri dish of pathogens, and the huge influx of patients makes waiting times spike by those thinking they're having an emergency when in fact they're not.

They are doing fairly well now at stopping people, taking temperatures and monitoring symptoms before people even get in the building. People with fevers or respiratory symptoms are taken immediately to an isolated area. Probably took a little too long to get that set up though.

You're right though about ER's being petri dishes. If you're not actually sick when you get there, you probably will be by the time you leave.

I knew someone who claimed to have contracted the clap, the syph, pulmonary artery hypertension, cor triatriatum dexter, pheochromocytoma, methemoglobinemia, dental caries, and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome all during a single ER visit.  However, I suspect that he was exaggerating slightly and really got only 2 or 3 -- or, at most, 4 -- of those.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

If he got the clap on an ER visit, it may have been well worth the trip

Weren't you praising the Chinese response to the outbreak in another thread?

Praising? They hid the outbreak and were slow to respond. They lied and are still using propaganda to blame the US. I am not even sure their draconian measures would succeed in a western Democracy. Even now I don't believe that they have had no new cases in over a week.

Well good, because they reported 46 new cases just today, 41 yesterday, 39 the day before, and 34 prior to that.

They have no new cases reported from china, all the cases were from travellers to China as of Thursday.

Was that ER located in a prison? I’ve heard cleanliness is not a top priority and the food sucks in prison (have no first hand knowledge of this).
